The original game is pretty ancient by PC standards - I wouldn't be shocked if they are partially doing this remaster to test the waters on the appetite for the game series.

Very fond memories of this one as a pirating kid, so much freedom in how you played, and the story was pretty interesting at least at the time.

If this ends up half decent I may want to try it, for nostalgia sake.

Couldn't find a thread on this (or the original for that matter), so here is one. Seems they're remaking it, and it looks like a dogshit version, not a good version.
mediocre remasters of Lara Croft and Legacy of Kain, no reason to expect better here. Embracer Group just desperate to milk whatever they can out of their IP library as they slowly circle the drain.

Never played Deus Ex, always wanted to. It's very dated now and I can't really justify playing it over all of the other 200 things on the list, and I was really hoping it'd get a sharp remaster at some point.

...so they blew it?

I feel like I might as well bring up the PS2 version that has been recently released on PS5, it's surprisingly different, better in some ways, worse in some ways. I think the level design actually looks better in the PS2 version, lighting was a lot brighter, and the scaling made locations look more realistic. I think it had higher resolution models but lower resolution textures so a lot of things would look better further away. There's tons of changes if you really want to get into it, kinda crazy how muck work they did changing the game even though it's basically the same when you get down to the story and everything.

There havent been 50 better games than Deus Ex (let alone 200) that have come out since 2000

The storyline sounded a bit far fetched when game was released. In 2025 it sounds prophetic

The true strength of deus ex was always the story, gameplay and dialogue. This remaster looks just like most other remasters like baldurs gate etc, a lazy texture and lighting update
