40M is a dollar (.25 per 10M) so that is roughly just shy of 9.3M dollars worth of gold if sold on the RMAH at the new prices they had as of the patch. People been claiming selling thousands of dollars worth of gold because of this, I know theres no proof and people with screencaps of their email being spammed with sold auctions could be faked but man this is more entertaining than the game.

What a mess they have on their hands. I don't see why they can't roll back though, even considering the RMAH, why does the RMAH mean that a rollback can't happen?

It's just an assumption but I think currency transactions are as close to instantaneous as they can get it so that money is already being sent to paypal etc and I don't know how they can reverse all that either legally or in good conscience.

Really? I haven't played in quite some time but I seem to recall it taking a while before I received any money via RMAH transactions, maybe a day or two. That could be just my faulty memory though.

Yeah, I was originally thinking it would just be like when Amazon or whoever prices something erroneously and they just cancel all those orders, but then I realized what you said about paypal and currency transactions and those things going pretty fast. They would have to get paypal to reverse all of that action if true, but I've never used the RMAH so I don't know how fast it processes.

Selling items or currency? Items take a while, I think currency does not.

Here's what the sales email states when selling items and gold:

"The proceeds from this auction will be automatically transferred to your PayPal account. Please allow up to 72 hours for the proceeds to transfer. To view this auction, please see the "Completed" tab in the Diablo III Auction House user interface."

If anyone has sold something recently you could go through your PayPal statements to see how long it took for them to transfer you the money. I wouldn't be surprised if it was entirely automated and very fast but hopefully it isn't.

I think you mean "Hopefully it is."

Lazy ass coding at it's finest. Sure the players are at fault for exploiting the fuck out of it too but as a company I hope this majorly bites them in the ass.

This will cost a TON in fund reversals, assuming that a "few" transactions actually sold paypal and blizzard will be on the line for a TON of money.

Also, what happens to sales that legitimately happened? Are you seriously going to rollback ALL sales because I can see that costing a couple million dollars easily on the global scale.

It wouldn't be possible to rollback sales I think, if real dollars have actually changed hands and aren't just sitting in a pool somewhere waiting to be sent out then I think they are out of luck, but if the dollars from the sales haven't been sent yet then I don't see any reason that they can't be "rolled back," it isn't actually a rollback though, more like just cancelling the transactions that took place for a few hours today.

I don't know what it would cost Blizzard, probably something due to people working overtime and so on, but I don't think that anyone would lose money on a rollback unless they were actively abusing the bug. Also from what I can see the bug didn't involve real money sales at all, it involved cancelling gold auctions on the RMAH and receiving duplicated gold in return. So it's not like there were a ton of real money transactions going on compared to normal, most of the transactions were taking place on the GAH since the RMAH was just used to duplicate the gold, there were no sales involved with the duplication method.
