I certainly don't disagree that many people "enjoy" the GAH in this game. But that's primarily (IMO) a function of the game being so flawed fundamentally, that the GAH actually enhances the shitty systems. Secondarily, some people just like to take the game out of their game and buy their way to victory. One or both of these principles is the entire reason micro-transaction stores are the wave of the future.

I wonder if they realized they aren't making much money off the RMAH and will remove it in the expansion. That would be nice. I also wouldn't mind seeing a currency system something like PoE instead of based off gold as the currency. It is honestly silly that some items can fetch billions of gold. That kind of inflation is just silly and makes it impossible to get into the game, imo.

Do you believe they arent making much money off it? I find that hard to believe really, I'm sure it turns out a tidy sum. And I agree that even just the GAH would probably cripple any kind of economy these action rpgs could have, just not as fast. And I SO wanted an AH in D3 in the years before it came out. Be careful what you wish for I guess.

The problem goes deeper, if the itemization and builds weren't so simplistic, it wouldn't have to be such an issue. They would need several stats with caps to begin with, so simply sorting by the highest value wouldn't give you the best item, more focus on defensive attributes you have to fulfill to not get smashed instantly. Many people hated Iron Maiden and immunities, but they make people diversify their skills instead of hitting the biggest button over and over, something the D3 skill system is already great for. Some kind of item dump is also necessary, preferably something like seasons and ladder, if they ripped off PoE's races, I wouldn't complain.

But it would need a balance. The boring part about PoE is you invest so heavily into defensive abilities. I don't think anyone truly finds it "fun" to pick up a vitality increase but I do get a sense of satisfaction seeing giant yellow numbers.

PoE isn't fun like D3 is fun. it just feels like a clunky old piece of shit. It doesn't even have SCT.

No clue what SCT is but I pretty much came to this conclusion as well. Even watching high end character streams the combat just didn't look very satisfying. Not arguing it doesn't have great concepts I'd like ported over. I'd enjoy a lovechild between D3 with D3's combat mechanics with PoE's endgame and currency mechanics.

I'd like to see a revamped and better rune system in D3 than that atrocious passive skill tree in PoE

SCT means scrolling combat text I assume, which should be ideally pointless, I'm playing to kill monsters, not see big numbers.

That's pretty much how I feel, PoE remembers it came from roguelikes, which are supposed to not be 100% balanced by the numbers and throw a wrench into your journey here and there, but D3 has the most satisfying combat by far.

I think they just took a few design choices the wrong way with Diablo3. I don't think they completely missed the mark but they went with bland itemization and forgot to actually give end game. They could fix both these things with an expansion. It isn't as huge a steaming pile of shit as everyone makes it out to be. Not to mention they recently (in the grand scheme of things) released Starcraft 2 and it is really the only RTS currently being played at a super competitive level. Sure the single player sucked but the MP experience is amazing.

A few ? They obviously needed a reality check badly, because stuff like having the progression through the game completely linear, 1-2 good builds per class that everybody uses, very little randomization of maps, useless uniques, bland itemization blows my mind. Especially when their designers acknowledged how great some of the D2 mods are. Instead of focusing on content and what people are going to do, they had to figure out how to integrate RMAH to not be bigger headache than it is right now.

Blizzard is at their best when the community does their work for them, their games spawned great mods and even SC2 needed a healthy dose of bitching from the community to make it last, otherwise we would be still playing on Lost Temple with Warhounds. In D3 case, they have to do all the work themselves, since it's always on and mods.

If I wanted to play one of the two melee classes, which one is better/easier soloing right now? If I play both do I still need to use a shield and go mostly defensive like 8+ months ago?

Barbs are by and large better off than monks at the moment, unless you get to ultra-super-high-end gear. And no you don't need to use a shield or much in the way of defensive skills anymore. A budget WW barb will get you through MP1-3 without hardly any deaths ever.

If you go to the US official Barbarian forums, there's a post with a bunch of builds linked in it, and some guides for gearing as well. Mostly what I use for all my characters at this point.

Barbs are better, but I'm not sure I would say easier. Maximizing WoTB uptime while babysitting tornado output is not that fun.

I think a monk is "easier" to solo with, in the sense that you pretty much auto-attack to kill everything while making sure to refresh your supporting skills (sweeping, mantra, flash, etc). You can be pretty lazy with it and still do well. A WW barb is the most efficient build, but it takes a lot more work to play it well and make it efficient.

I personally prefer a Seismic Slam barb because it is fun for me. However, it is much less efficient than a WW barb.

Also a lot more expensive to build well, as the prices on basically any Skorn with a +str roll are fucking bonkers.

Just to clarify, monks actually have more than one build now. 2H monks and Wave of Light are becoming more prevalent on higher MP. That's at least a 100% increase in build diversity!

I'm giving D3 another try with a monk. Good character for lazy farming.
