As an aside, I don't know much about anything other than DH (and I wouldn't touch the class as long as using sentry is required, fuck that skill) so I'm curious if I'm doing anything horribly wrong with my crusader:
Katatonia - Community - Diablo III(I have Akkhan gloves, but no RoRG, and no matter how many times I reroll them it refuses to give me CHD.)
Basically just spec'ing around the gear that happens to drop so far, but I can do T3 comfortably when solo by abusing Unity. When grouped though, we have been capping out at around grift 16 and I feel like I'm the one holding us back.
Gear:
I'm sure you're on this but CHD on neck is pretty big, as soon as you can afford the souls / gems.
Anywhere you can choose primary skill +dmg or toughness stat, take toughness stat (ex. pants).
Skills:
Here is
every reasonnot to use Sweep Attack. It's seasonal so you take what you can get but I would roll away from Sweep and into Condemn (maybe Hammers, but you have the seasonal shield so use it!) as you get more Akkhans, or Shield Bash as you get more Roland's (and a Piro Marella blacksmith plan)... unless you start running across Holy or Physical or Lightning gear suddenly. That's a different discussion.
The damage from Steed Charge: Nightmare is pretty negligible unless you're beefy and intentionally using it to position on the far side of mobs. I'd use Endurance or Rejuvenation for now.
Slash is bad in that it doesn't afford you the distance of Justice or Smite nor the utility of Punish.
I'm of the opinion that Lord Commander is only worth it if you run Phalanx. Bombardment on it's own without a lot of CDR is still too much downtime. Better use of the skill slot is Shield Glare: Zealous or Provoke. Better use of the passive is Wrathful.
Augment your spender and focus on getting the CDR / Wrath regen to make it manageable (Akkhan's handles both but you can make due until then).
I'm going to assume by some of your choices and not having Akkhan's 6-piece that you have wrath gen issues. To resolve (easiest+cheapest first);
1) Shield Glare: Zealous and Provoke: Your Choice (Hit Me or Too Scared, IMO). Great skills otherwise, especially in groups, and they give you steady wrath. For +more betterer drop Righteousness (terrible for 2handers) and Lord Commander (see above) and get Wrathful + whatever (Finery, or skill-based if you switch spenders). You will be generating lots more wrath, so you will heal naturally by using your damage skills. Any +globe bonus is icing on the cake. This extra healing potentially allows you to drop Laws of Hope. Justice and Valor are better in most builds, unless you're really in the shit all the time (Shield Bash) and need Wings to reposition.
2) Reaper's Wraps
3) A good 1H (ex. Darklight) and Righteousness + Fervor + Justice
EDIT: As for the above discussion, Steed is a given in about every Crusader build. Nothing sucks more than a big empty greater rift that you have to walk through because you can't switch skills. Just get used to having it on your bar, no exceptions.
