I saw the last two games, they really weren't that good...

Just seems like dota fans got really excited because there hasn't been a good match in a long time (other than g-league).

Definitely feels better with time. If you're coming from HoN/LoL then it'll feel even more clunky.
How does anyone play like that? Gave DOTA2 a spin the other day and good god clunky doesnt even begin to describe it compared to HoN.

Doesn't take long to feel better and it isn't as bad with some heroes.

I think most would consider Dota 2 a superior game to HoN so that should be good enough reason to just stick it out for a bit.

Both games have aspects that they are superior to the other.

HoN being more intuitive and pub friendly for one. Oh, and cosmetic changes that are actual changes to the avatar. Where are you Indiana Kunka?

So I was given this game as a gift the other day. Thanks again!!

Never played Dota though! I'm sure it's a learn as you go type thing, but is there a site or something where I can learn what everything is?
I started it up yesterday and I have no idea what class/race does what or what is the best/worse... I'm completely in the dark with this game.

Any suggestions?

Finally got round to playing after installing a new GFX card.

I played DOTA for a bit, and HON a bit during beta so it only took a few games to pick it up. Uber disappointed to see there's no Techies in yet, nothing better than continually luring people into remote mines

Lets hope that never happens. Full model changes only hurt the artistic impression of the game, as well as making the learning curve that much steeper.

DotA feeling "clunkier" is due to slower turn rates and longer animations, and it's a very conscious design decision. Movement errors are punished more severely because turning rates and animations are longer. The playing field between ranged and melee is more even, since hit-and-run harass is significantly more risky. IIRC, HoN were forced to give melee heroes 20% added damage reduction against ranged attacks to deal with the fact that ranged harass in lane was too strong with faster turn speed/animations.

We can argue all day about which is better - near instant turns and animations like HoN improves twitch play, but the slower speeds in DotA punishes mistakes more. Either way, DotA would have to be completely rebalanced if animations were sped up.

Watching N0tail play Meepo is pretty damn impressive. Wish I had those types of micro skills.

Dota is supposed to have heros turn around at a certain speed. It's not by any fault of design, or coding or anything else. You're supposed to turn around... not instantly. Some heros are much harder to last hit with, especially at earlier levels. All completely intentional.

If you've come from a game without denying creeps, prepare yourself.
