I'm only at about 70 games but my progression was Crystal/Sniper -> Death Prophet -> Blood Seeker. I love me some Blood Seeker. I find him fairly easy to be successful with in the single queue games if you have a decent team. On the other hand if (like I had recently), you have a really shitty lane support that starts feeding at about 1:00 and you're trying to hold down the lane against ranged with a really good Crystal, well that sucks balls.

Death Prophet I have had some success playing in a duo with someone I know. She's not too hard to play and her ultimate is a nice, brainless area-spam. Good for pushing too.

Honorable mention for pure fun goes to Tusk. I've nearly pissed myself laughing many times playing duo BS/Tusk with my cousin.

Problem for me now is that I'm in this shit tier purgatory where I am just good enough at a couple of heros to bitch about people being stupid but no way am I ready for playing ranked....so I just queue .... wait for 9 people to say they are ready ... timeout ... wait for 10 ... get into the game ... wait on the 10th person to timeout ... re-queue... and bitch about some support last hitting creeps.
If your serious business about improving, then try to focus on improving one single aspect of a game to the best of your ability if you can. These can be ultra simple things like. I'm never leaving the base without a TP scroll, or aiming to secure 50% of all possible last hits in a wave. But learn to focus because you will never improve 7 different parts of the game at a time in a meaningful way. Additional ideas can be, because I'm x hero - I'm going to try and create an opportunity to gank everytime the cooldown is up. Or if a support - you want to merely keep the wards bought out for the entire game - regardless if you didn't put them in exactly the best positions merely the practice of always buying them to start. Perhaps in a game against any hero with invis you want to buy dust or sentries - regardless of your role and attempt to use it against the enemy hero with stealth. Watching the minimap to determine when other lanes engage in fights or perhaps are being tower dove (at which point you tp in support).

Point is there is a thousand little things you could focus on that you can improve with, and if you're the type of person who enjoys trying to master a hero or two then focus on goals for them such as deaths, gpm, participation ratio (K/A v Team Total). Keep the goals attainable so that you can measure game over game progress. Knowledge is power in dota, and experience is a close second.

If there is one, then it's probably wrong. Dota is about getting the most out of every opportunity, you should never argument by "I was supposed to lose this" Sure, if you get lane vs OD, you probably won't win, but unless they smoke gank you with 2 other people, there is still no reason for you to die. Go stack jungle camp so you can get some gold, call for a gank, terrorize sidelanes, erc.

I would love to know how much I am underutilizing certain heros. Played a sand king game 2 weeks ago and did well and we won easily but his ultimate seemed really lackluster. Watched merlini's stream recently where he played SK and saw him doing the epicenter blink combo and it blew me away that I had no idea. Blink dagger was on the suggested items but I just never put 2 and 2 together. Exactly same thing with earth shaker and his blink stun combos.

The item shop in dota is a hero++ itself, what you build can truly be game to game based on build, team need, role, available farm. Its surprisingly flexible. Dota will keep revealing combinations that work. Forcestaff is never a bad pickup on a supporter, and its good practice to really understand the item.

It's pretty aximoatic that you should always carry a TP, but actual usage is something almost everyone can get better at.

Look at using them as an escape. It's really, really easy to get panicked and die uselessly during a gank or a team fight, but if you work on keeping your focus you can often times escape an otherwise hopeless situations just by double tapping your TP. It only takes 3 seconds to cast, which is a surprisingly short amount (especially if you are able to duck behind a tree first), and a lot of times people have already burned their stuns so you can't be interrupted. Even if you're not sure if you can be stunned, its often worth the gamble. 135 gold for a chance to deny them several hundred gold/exp, save yourself hundreds, and avoid the death timer? Sign me up for that roll of the dice.

Every time you die, you should ask yourself if you could have saved yourself by TPing out. It will save you deaths in the future and be one of the absolute biggest things you can do to improve your play.

Related to that is buying out. One of DotA's more opaque characteristics is "reliable gold" or gold that you cannot lose when you die. You get it for killing heroes, towers, and a few other reasons. When you buy an item, you purchase it out of your unreliable gold first, so when you're about to die, many times you can simply double tap your TP scroll quick buy (buying two) or some other item you have queued up to burn up your unreliable gold, letting you lose less or nothing when you die. Rather than sulking about your inevitable death or smashing your mic to yell at the Russians on your team, taking advantage of it actually lets you do something productive in your last moments.

Watch games 3000 or less, there is often people filling the entire inventory, and not having any tps at all. Its a simple tip for a new player, it has to be in your inventory for you to even begin to use it as you suggest. The mobility offered by the TP scroll cannot be understated at all points in the game.

That's something my friend still does to this day. He'll buy like component after component and his inventory is always full which he thinks is OK excuse for not carrying a TP

TP is an awsome escape mechanism. If you are getting ganked, you always should ask yourself, if they used all their TP interrupts. You often can just straight out TP away, if you have enough hp. Even in the higher brackets it often works.

Also use the FoW to avoid damage, if it is possible before TPing.

Edit: Another thing. If you know that you will die and cant prolong it to waste their time, just do as much damage as possible. Throw out a last nuke to be effective and maybe force an enemy to go all the way back to the fountain.

Omniwalk is tooo fun. It probably desnt work at the higher skill levels but in noob-mid level games its hilarious.

Treads, sange yasha, soul ring into whatever else you want. Just walk people down and dare them to attack you (doesnt work so well against ranged heavy teams but if they are melee heavy its awesome).

Hey guys, I have a team half way together. We are looking for two dedicated support 4-5 roles to fill. If you're interested in being open minded willing to learn and not be a jackass. We would be interested! Prefer to have someone who has a good bit of experience. Message me here or add me on steamSteam Community :: Dick DavidThanks!

Still, if the mid gets haste, they have any offensive wards, invis heroes or god forbid furion, you will be donating so much gold...
