PGL Arlington major just finished. I managed to watch all of it start to finish. Some really fun dota to watch and the final games were great. Hyped for TI.

Dota players retire / unretire more than prize fighter boxers, lol. I wish TI-Winnning x2 OG would have just got the band back together.

Flipping through the Regional Qualifiers, Western Europe is stacked with established teams and known players. So is Eastern EU and China. The other regions look pretty much up for grabs.

So how does T1 qualify. Is there a qualifier round for TI?
There are "open" qualifiers yeah like every year. A bunch of teams are automatically qualified based on DPC points this year, the rest have to go through the open qualifiers, which is basically a big tournament(or well one big tournament per region) with every team that didn't qualify. 1 spot for each region, then the #2 and #3 go to yet another tournament, the "last chance tournament" with the teams of other regions and battle it out for two last spots.Starts in september(on the 3rd) and lasts 2weeks.

The 2GD thing is overblown

Valve just fucked up this year because a) they released the battle pass really late compared to prior years b) the battlepass this year was pretty barren in terms of rewards c) the Pro scene this year felt pretty somber/low key. Probably in large part due to the Ukraine/Russia war, because DOTA was extremely popular in those regions

No it isn't.

That's when Valve chose China over the West.

I can't even rationalize their decision. Valve is not a public company, so they don't have to answer to shareholder pressure to bow to China. Yet they pussed out. So fuck them. And fuck Steam.

It's what globalization gets you.

China is a much bigger market with 1.6 billion people. US stands at about 340 million.
