They seem really insistent about Ember and Battlefury, its a Core Item as well as listed twice as situational
Radiance as an ability seems decent though as its tied to the spell shield its mostly for farming, AoE attack is pretty weak, bolas will probably never hit who you want, and the ultimate seems useful as an escape but otherwise meh. Earth spirit seems more interesting but his reliance on stones means he lacks mobility.

I watched singsing's stream earlier he was playing them but he sucked at xin quite a bit and was meh at earth spirit(raped the game though, but he missed a lot of shit).

No shit, people are grinding it for the items, just like last year. It's like playing LoL for the IP. I'm almost surprised how many people are fixated on that, but then again we have TF2 as a proof of concept. It's not as bad this year, because I have 2 new heroes to fuck around with and I play completely different heroes, but boy is it painful to watch people struggle with "your" heroes.
I think even Valve was surprised by willingness of people to grind game mode for items, I think I doubled my inventory during the event. You can see how toned down Frostivus was and crafting introduced this year.

As far as the new heroes, any tips so far? I've been trying to play Earth as a support but it seems pretty shitty so far. I've read he makes a good solo off-laner but even then I don't see how. As far as Ember, he seems like total shit to be honest. He scales horribly, I don't see any reason you would pick him.

Ember is weird not-quite-a-carry, as in he gets shat on by many heroes in the farm wars, but I think he can find some place in ganking lineups because of the sheer mobility. Idea of Navi playing him alongside Puck/SS/Bounty/Timber makes me giggle. Phase + Drums, max bolas first. Kaolin is something like Elder, but with no ranged nuke, so he has to go in every single time and that will murder him.

Earth Spirit has a 2000range nuke that costs 100mana, so surely you're talking about something else? It is not instant though so if you mean like teamfights and shit maybe, but it also silences for 5secs, and he has a guaranteed(more or less) ranged stun. And he can pull and push people around, which is like so good it'd be worth even if he did nothing else.

I play him as a mix of Panda/Tiny. As in harass and only go in when the team is committed or its support sniping. If you play him right you can do a little harassing and set people up for a burst kill or simply running them down and bouncing them back to your partner waiting with a stun. Coupled with an urn he's got more than a few ways to stay out of a fight but still relevant. Especially if you blink in, ult, and roll out before you get poly'd or stun locked.
