i don't think people should be complaining about force staff being used to its max. It's not like say the pudge fountain hook or other things that technically work because of a bug that wasn't fixed.. (having said that i think removing the fountain hook removed something that was awesome to watch and required enormous coordination to pull it off but it may have been op lol)

Mlg was a lot of fun to attend and I was really taken aback by how approachable and nice most of the players where. I ended up speaking briefly to a bunch of different players and very few came off being asses.. Hell I saw xboct take a picture with a fan not even an hour after losing to dk and he was really cool and having fun with it. that said I didn't like that if you wanted to see any of the games on the second or third streams you had to literally stand right behind the players and watch over their shoulders. Also they didn't have any type of score board or results table so unless you had access to the internet on your phone or something you had no clue what was going on outside of the main stage. Even if they had updated you during the couch shows would've been helpful. That said it was a fun event and I'd probably go again.

I don't understand the reasoning behind complaining about an item being used to max benefit due to smart play and tactics in a game that is supposedly "THE competitive MOBA".
It's an item that is far too effective offensively for its cost. I fucking hate the direction that sports/games in general continue to take where offense is celebrated and defense is consistently degraded through rules/mechanics.

Do you really think chess would be a better game if pieces could teleport before they moved/attacked? Being compelled to actually deal with static positioning requires more strategic creativity than coordinating a few button presses to circumvent it.

In this case I can't agree with you. In regards to the force staff to circumvent the high ground they needed 3 plus force staffs a sheep stick plus the coordination to time the pushes, get the sheep ulti combo off then the rest of the team had to get in position bc the guy force staffed was really over extended. If you think about it they put over 10k gold and took a huge risk on a strategy where one person miss timing something or the other team reacting quickly defeats the whole strat. Say dk force staffs the OD further into the base before he manages to blow someone up what happens? Hes dead and now they are short handed with almost not chance to do anything else. What if only one person was in range and he bkbs right when the ODs force staffed? Again dead OD. I dont think force staff makes that play op so much as speed took a huge risk and dk just wasnt ready didnt know how to react.

As to blink, I can kind of see your point except remember for 2100 gold you only get to well blink a short distance and if you take any damage at all its useless. Once you know your opponent has one you can grab a force staff or other item to stop or negate that advantage.

In dota (I wont get into sports) the rules, mechanics and items dont favor the offensive over the defensive they favor the creative and honestly the defensive still have an inherent advantage in dota. The best part of dota is it rewards and punishes risk equally. Shit look at navi alliance in ti3 navi took a risk and got caught and alliance won over a milliom dollars. Speed took a risk an won mlg

Wait since when was forcestaff an offensive item? It's used defensively like 99% of the time.

I'm not talking about a single mundane force staff, I'm talking about concatenating multiple force staffs + blink to almost instantaneously insert behind enemy positions and other stupid shit. I've been saying it since Dota 2 started being discussed on these forumss. Put a 5 second cooldown on both items that disallow the other being used.

So when are we going to see some new items or truly unique heroes in game? Been looking back over at HoN's library since blizzard announced their game and starting to wonder if Dota 2 is just going to stall out as a reproduction of its origin or if it will evolve or adapt at all. I know we're not back to a full all-stars catalog yet, but it would be interesting to see something unexpected in the game.

Why has Alchemist gone from being a Carry pick at TI3 to being played as a Support at MLG?

He is still both, his first 2 skills are insanely effective even without gear, but he can farm up 6 slots in record time. He's often used in drafts to hide whether you are going to lastpick carry or support. Depends on the team, his new ulti lets him teamfight really well, but he's weaker to burst and as a support, maxed concotion with medalion does ridiculous damage and if the target is standing in acid spray - BOOM HEADSHOT.

Unique heroes - depends on what you mean, as far as I know, LoL or HotS has nothing even remotely similar to LD, Meepo, Kaolin, Storm, Doom, Furion, Slark or even Antimage. All of their heroes follow some kind of archetype and if they can somehow fulfill multiple roles, nerf is imminent. Dota is the most unique and gives you all the tools to use and abuse.

I think he means original heroes that weren't in dota1. Which seems dumb when all the dota1 heroes haven't been ported, especially since a bunch of them are fairly recent and for the most part haven't been played besides by hardcore dota1 fans. For example earth spirit was only added a few months ago. HoN started adding their own heroes early in the developement and it fucked the balance multiple times, the heroes would either be full of suck or way OP, and they would rebalance them and swing too hard every other patch. Fucking FA balancing makes LoL's Garen balancing looks like a well thought out process.

Don't get the complaint much though, unless you've been playing dota1 a lot even recently, all the heroes they add are new. The ideas and concepts aren't but that only matters if you knew them before, otherwise it's still new shit. If they added a dota hero 1:1 to LoL, it would be a new hero for everyone who hasn't played dota, don't think it'd matter that the hero existed before.

As for HotS, I don't think I've seen a single hero concept that was original? Maybe the overseer zerg thing that looked like a non combat hero, that sounded pretty interesting, but the rest was basically lol heroes. And they're obviously not new in terms of character since it's all blizzard stuff.

Well, I already posted about it, but they just added a new hero in dota 1, Sun Wukong, not sure on his abilities.

I don't think there's a greater feeling than playing a game with a rager who blames you for everything, even though you're the 1 support on a 4 carry team, and then subsequently playing AGAINST him in the next game and absolutely fucking raping them.

I'm not taking the Laughing game into account at all. Just Allstars, HoN, Dota 2, and HotS (and Aeon of Strife to a degree). I'm also talking more than just heroes though. When was the last new item recipe included in the game? Items to support aggressive/roaming support play styles (Harkon's Blade, Spell Shards, Lightbringer) or pocket immunities potions - anything to add more creativity a la mass force staffing or necro rat dota. Is there ever going to be a game mode / map that adds more depth or strategy to the game? Gold management / investment on base/creep improvements a la AoS (improving (anti)push but rewarding more gold, etc).

Maybe I'm just burned out from the hard-set roles most of the heroes are forced into and it is feeling blander than it is, but I miss some of the HoN cast for more readily adding newer dynamics into the mix. It does come at the price of balancing though -- even though trolling with Forsaken was fun as hell on smurf accounts. Where are you Rhapsody clone?

In the mean time, where are you techies / terrorblade.

Um this is not the kind of game you are looking for if you expect new shit every week. The whole point of this game is to be a mostly balanced esport platform. That being said, I'm still having as much fun as my first game of dota 10 years ago with some of the initial heroes. Balancing here and there is perfectly fine with a new hero every 2 months+. As for items I'm fine with every item in the game, the only one i miss is from hon where you could toggle your melee auto attacks to be magic instead. twas nice on some heroes
