Keep in mind the first 10 games - especially if you've played much dota don't seem to be hugely impactful on your rating. People have gone 2-8 and ended up like 4200, fear went 5/5 and got 5286.
I call bullshit... 6-4 and I got 3152.

Reth and I won a game tonight and my rating went down... I did shitty in the match and the system knew it. There is much more to it than just wins and losses.

Good post explaining how the ELO system works :

How ranked MMR actually works

"I won all 10 of my initial ranked games and my MMR is 3000 while my friend lost all his games and has a MMR of 4000. WTF Volvo???

Your 10 calibration matches don't actually determine your MMR as valve has lead you to believe. Your initial MMR is already pre-determined by your mean skill in unranked play. This is why you were not matched against completely new players in your first game. Your rating does not start from 0 and jump up until it hits your true rating.

You start where you left off in unranked but your uncertainty rating is reset to very high. Your rating changes more than it normally would in unranked but not so much after 10 games that it would make a big difference to your rating. If you were a 2500 rating player and you won your 10 matches, you would be 3000 but your friend may have been a 4500 rating player so he dropped to 4000 after losing 10 matches."

Cyni posted but it isn't bullshit, your elo was already known to the system.

I still have no ratings wish it wasnt 10 games
There is a console command to find out what the game believes your elo is if you have at least 1 ranked game. Open the console - type in developer 1. The second command is dota_game_account_debug. It will give you a list of account variables - there is a section that will have your ranked solo/group queue elo and the uncertainty that the system has about the rating. You probably want to reset the console to developer 0 after as there are error messages that will spam the log occasionally.

My friends and I have been PVEing it up in Wraith Night. Pretty amusing mode, reminds me of some WC3 maps. We just beat NG++ and found that there was a NG+++.

We had Sven, Windranger, Omni, Axe, and Drow. Drow, WR, Sven went dps. Axe full tank and Omni full support.

My last ranked match of the night. Felt like a 1v5 at times (they blew every ult on me every single engagement). Prolly the most frustrating game i've ever been a part of. We were *THIS CLOSE* to losing at several points in the game. Watch the replay if you want to see me raging.

Nope. I think my buddy ran Mag once when it started and wasn't really feeling him. Empower could help, depends on if the bigger mobs get stunned by his ulti. Axe, Sven, and Omni are must haves imo.

Speaking of countering Slark, this happened to me in a ranked game (I'm Don't ask!)

loving Legion Commander, I go shield, quelling blade and tangos at start, then boots, gloves of haste and either rush midas or complete power treads first if I need the hp then go Midas. After Midas it's usually shadowblade then cuirass. I've won roughly 10/12 games with her and the stacking dmg from duel can really help swing a losing game back in your favour. Pub game I played last night we had a Witch Doctor with Aghs who's ult was destroying us in team fight, once we started to work as a team all it took was shadowblade to the back line and duel on the Witch Doctor to start crushing the team fights

That post appears to simply be speculation, the author doesn't phrase anything as if they work for Valve and they aren't citing anything other than a Microsoft paper.

Its not speculation, you can play one game of ranked, and use the console commands I mentioned above to see the elo that your account is working with after 1 game. Your future wins/losses adjust it from that point and after 10 games it becomes visible. Quite simply, there is no way to narrow down your skill bracket in dota in just 10 games from scratch alone. They definitely use what the system has as your unranked elo as an influence on the baseline.
