So I am downloading the game. I need something new to play and I love this universe. The game seems to be getting over all positive reviews.

Any Basic suggestions? I like that sniper is a viable choice as that was my specialty in Cyberpunk. Is there a server everyone is playing on?

Does this game compile shaders every time?

I asked the same the other day about Landsraad. Nothing explains the system whatsoever. I think it's limited to guilds maybe?

How does one engage in the Landsraad system? I feel like there is a ton of shit I'm just flat out missing. Is there a bread crumb quest leading to that I missed?

Guilds only. You could make a one man guild if you wanted. You have to declare your guild to a faction (ideally the faction you aligned it). Your faction does the stuff in the square to try to claim it. You can’t see the progress of the opposition faction. Hand ins you do at faction quartermaster in Hagga, collect personal rewards from the individual house reps. Winning faction of lansgrad gets the perk that is voted

Right now it’s hand ins, kills, or control point controls. They plan to change it to make it more complex and meaningful for solos

Shaders yes (checks before launch, compile after update)

As for classes, you can mix and match skills. You start with a class tree and can find trainers that unlock the other trees after quests. General summary: trooper is guns and nades and mobility, with specialities in heavy weapons, shotguns, drill shots, and disrupters. Mentat is guns, poison, shields, and turrets/drones with specialties with rifles and sniping. Sword master is melee, bene geserit is melee and voice powers. There is other stuff too but you can mix and match

Finally went to the actual Deep Desert (not just the wrecks and labs in row A). I've got to say, all my gnashing about PVP is misguided. The real problem with the Deep Desert is it's boring as fuck.

Like, holy shit, I'd read about people flying a lot, but I wasn't really appreciating it. I just wanted some spice and had to fly all the way out to row H to find some. Gathered about 2k, worm appeared, waited a bit, gathered another 2k...and then fly all the fucking way back.

This is their great concept for endgame? Fighting over meaningless empty desert?

That’s why there is PvP - the only real risk out they are other players (or trying to solo a testing station in the PvP section of DD lol)

Pvp section of deep desert is boring until you lose all your shit + vehicle to some cockbag in a scout with rockets, then you realize it isn’t going to be easy farming

That's another failure of this end game system they've built. "We want people engaging in the guild content" and yet, no way to search for guilds in game. Cool.

Yes, it’s something that was mentioned in the AMA

Best bets are old fashioned way: ask in chat. If there is a guild on your sietch that is best since you don’t have to travel to a different sietch. I joined some random guild I met in deep desert after the first guild I joined had some way too intense dude trying to arrange spice harvesting and no one ever used ingame chat, just discord (I really don’t want to sit in fucking discord voice chat 24/7)

Cutray and vehicle mining stack, so may want to look into that if you do buggy mining . Compactor yields is good for spice. I’d dump power pack recharge and climbing stamina as trade offs

I’m completely overhauling my character. Fuck melee. Just when I think I’ve got it, it janks out.

I’ll post my new built in a bit.

To anyone just starting out, you can respec for free every 48 hours. And when you do, if you’ve unlocked a second class, the initial problem of the game forcing you to choose your second skill tree from the same class can be ignored. Just go straight to the other class. My buddy started as a Trooper, and ended up only wanting the claw from the entire class.

PvPers are BIIIIIIIIIIIG MAD! The tears are pretty hilarious.

Friends and I have full MK5 gear and have dabbled a bit into DD. I think we're pretty much at the "end" for now, until they add more content. We have some base redesign shit we're doing, but then we're just logging in every 2 weeks or so for maintenance. Definitely a fun ride and we got our money's worth, but MK6 gear is completely unnecessary outside of a PvP system that is PvP just for PvP's sake. I'm only a fan of PvP in games when there are legitimate goals/resources to be fought over or E-peen bragging rights in the form of leaderboards, conquests, etc.

I keep seeing PVP people saying "you only need tier 6 for PVP" but this is ...not even remotely true?

PVP is just scout ornicopters shooting at each other. I guess you could argue that you need MK6 copter parts, but that means all the other shit is useless. The way DD is currently implemented, PVP doesn't exist and the gear is meaningless to everyone.

I'd argue it's only PVE'ers looking to "complete" the game who actually need the tier 6 stuff.

You could just as easily argue that pve needs mk6 gear to gather resources more effectively or can better handle the harder pve encounters in deep desert (the testing stations in the PvP area are no joke - you aren’t soloing that lol)

Pvpers being mad are just knee jerk - sectors through D are kind of useless anyways. Virtually no t6 mats and very rarely any spice. The only thing that changes is you have a shorter distance to the safe area, but realistically that still means you’ll have to go deep to get dense materials. It just consolidates the gankers into an area they were probably already patrolling. No one is going to the DD to get aluminum or basalt nodes

I mean..sure? You don't need Tier 6 for PvP, necessarily. It's just the next step for the "progression". And I guess some of the PoIs that are tough. But even then, clearing the PoI doesn't really "progress" you further. You just do it to do it.

In essence, we're pretty much at the progression "wall"/softcap - whatever you want to call it. And we're at the point where we're waiting for more content to progress further.

Sounds like you're agreeing with me?

Also, regarding your point above, Cyb, it almost seems like they could just remove rows B through D. There's basically nothing there anyway, why make me fly all the way out there instead of just moving the resources to row A? It also makes your zone smaller to save server resources. As is, DD is just 95% empty space.

It still spreads out the resources to make it harder for 1 person to monopolize and open sand is needed for spice blows

I got my 120 hours, probably done or close. I really dont need t6 gear. I have no real desire in the landsraad system of let me gather/hoard a bunch of items for a week just to dump it all and try to get the winning side. Sure the buffs are really nice, but really that is all your doing at that point, just mass gather/craft every week, rinse and repeat. Only thing I am missing is some t6 gear, the final end crafting stations(to make that t6 gear), and some dungeons/uniques in the DD.

That was fast. I was getting ready to finally build my DD base, guess I'll plan on having it way out in the D row.

  • The PvE area has been adjusted to encompass the entire southern half of the Deep Desert map.
    • This means that players who have no interest in PvP should be able to find what they want without engaging in PvP. Imperial Testing Stations, caves, and so forth found in this area are thus now PvE.
    • Control Points and Shipwrecks will, however, continue to be PvP throughout the entire map, which means you will find localized pockets of PvP within the PvE section still. Similar to how Shipwrecks are PvP in Hagga Basin.
  • To retain the Risk vs Reward setup for the Deep Desert:
    • The density of resources increases the further north you go. This includes high-density clusters of valuable resources.
    • The largest spice fields will also spawn in the north.
    • The majority of Control Points will exist in the northern part.
Translation: All we did was condense the PvP area to make sure gankers and griefers have an even EASIER time finding victims while not actually fixing any of the issues with late-game grinding. I'm sure the resources spawning in the southern half of the desert will not even be worth stopping for on your way to the far north.

Have to admit, the water thing is pissing me off. How am I fighting raiders, if there is no water plants or stations near them? If people are there, then water would be close by.

Maybe, but take into consideration other things

1) Missile movespeed nerf means that armed thopters will have a harder time keeping up with unarmed thopters
2) Shorter distance to safe
3) The bottom half of the DD was usually a ghost town anyways - all the gankers already lived far up north

What I do suspect will be the case is that the resource density in the PVE area will be dogshit (45m respawn on nodes is kind of insane), which will still poke people to risk the PVP areas.
