Well Funcom are officially dumbfucks

Hotfix today, without warning, put a control point in a heavily used PVE section of deep desert (D6). As a result, all bases there are now PVP flagged, so all the PKers/gankers/exploiters are raiding and looting them.

They also increased the transition from PVP to PVE from 5 to 30 seconds, meaning if you're being chased you're still not safe in PVE for half a minute

Between this crap and my stuff getting deleted, I am this close to just logging in only to fuel my base only until they get their fucking shit together
Yea this is feeling less like Dune and more like the Life of Brian.

They did acknowledge the mess ups and it sounds like they might compensate in some form

I stuffed most of my junk into the bank today (an arduous task), and nuked my last house. I've no interest in the spice grind, and certainly no interest in pvp.

For those of you that didn't buy the game, here's what you miss out on if you don't want to go into pvp areas:

The swords skilltree (unless you start as one)
Finishing Benny or Mentalist training.
Late main story stuff
T4+ power packs

Code:
Our goal is not to force PvE players to interact with a PvP system that they may have no interest in.

An obvious lie. You get no warning on most of the situations, and the travel time is such that most people will think: "I drove all the way here, maybe I won't run into anyone" and they go in anyway.

Then they can look at their metrics and say "See see! 70% of players are entering pvp zones!"

Games have been doing that kind of bait-n-switch crap for decades. Long quest chain with the final part (and the reward) in a pvp area, SURPRISE!

I got a good bit of fun out of it playing hardcore style. My final character is still alive, and I finished just about everything I could. When I can run a server at home with my own settings and mods, I'll give it another go.

Yeah servers are pretty dead. I've never seen a game go from this is really good to god damn boring so fast. They really have nothing planned until next summer and this will be long forgotten by then. Hopefully a company can take some of the crafting simplicity and grind and just make a better game. I had a blast playing to T5 and then T6 hit with the pvp shit and bam. dead game.

Its usually the other way around for funcom.

This game had a shelf life entire time for me. There is only so much you can do in a survival game until you are just done. Then all you can do is wait for content patches.

The majority, who play pve, are finishing up the non infinite grind portion of the game and are clocking out till dlc. My guild is still playing but im certainly not going to grind spice or landstrahd checklists. I gots my fayds drinker. Not sure i even care about top end armor as swordman. I like the games core. I hope they put more pve content in, and consider firing the guy who told them to lean into pvp so heavy. Tho i doubt the guy will hear, oroborosing deep in his own ass.

I got 250 hours out of the game so I’m pretty happy with my purchase.
yea i'm in a similar boat. i've enjoyed it a lot. great for what it is. I'll likely tinker with making my base fancier. maybe unlock a skin or two. may even try to 'fully map' some areas. well worth the price and even in it's state it's a lot smoother, and more fun than a lot of survival or light mmo games.

Same, I’m just under 300 hours (I’ll hit it today and I store important stuff in case I don’t pay my taxes).

I got more than my monies worth, hopefully they fix their end game at some point.

The shipwrecks in Hagga are usually devoid of PvP on most servers, so that’s pretty much a non-issue. Most PvP griefers go to DD and ignore Hagga

On my Hagga server I found a massive base that appeared to have been abandoned. Was full of loot and was probably the best decorated base I’ve seen in game. I grabbed the valuable stuff since the base will eventually erode to storms - if the guy comes back I’d probably give most of it back, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they just stopped playing

Even if I play less, it’s not too hard to keep the base powered and taxes paid for months. Just turn off all your shit and a base generator can keep it fueled indefinitely so long as you log in every couple weeks

Some players are making storage bases in Hagga Rift - bases down low in rift take reduced storm damage. Just make a box using the basic terminal that doesn’t need taxes, fill it with storage boxes, then keep it fueled every 3 weeks. Even if you forget, the reduced damage means the base won’t erode as fast, so you’d probably have an extra week or two on top of that

Yeah got a lot of time in but my buddy isn't playing much anymore and our bases power hit the shits. Then death Stranding 2 came out - loggerd into Dune yesterday and our ornithopers were gone and base was out of power. Meh. Was fun while it lasted. I didn't feel like mining power so we can always build a ne wone if there is ever a reason to play end game.

It is less about the risk with pvp areas and more about influencing the metrics. It's not 1999 with UO riding high. We've all had a taste and most of us want nothing more to do with it.

Most of the end game issues could have been solved if they made deep desert resource gathering not force you to give up defense to attacks or make first strike advantage so strong

95% of the time, you’re attacked from the air while on the ground. Speed nerf to attack thopters doesn’t matter if your aircraft is crippled before you can even get airborne or high enough to glide away

and end game pvp in the dd seems enginered to make you 'lol, loose all your stuff'. folks be landing on top of others vehicles and dropping thumpers. blowing up planes so you loose your personal gear. standing on choppers and shooting them etc.

if it was just simple death and back to town with thee, no big deal, but you can loose days of supplies in vehicle parts, or if you're T6 decked and some one squashgriefs you, you'll loose that drive.

they recently did a servey and i repeated over and over that making pve players into cat t oys won't help them attain long term players.

I recommended something similar - to get pve people involved with PvP situations, you need appropriate risk mitigation

You want the loss to sting, not gut. A bit of risk in deep desert does keep things interesting, but it’s hard to balance for

My thing is still, there's no reward system in place for PVP. It's just PVP for the sake of PVP.

If I'm a PVE player, what's the incentive to engage in PVP whatsoever? I don't mean venturing into PVP areas, I mean actually doing PVP. In fact, the carrot here is to actively avoid PVP as much as possible because there is no upside.

That's not a good system for your endgame.

That is the issue with any open world PVP for the most part: once the novelty wears off of beating the shit out of each other, what's the carrot?

I think one area this game could benefit is more "scheduled" PVP situations with rewards

Their whole risk / reward PvP philosophy is so out of touch you'd call them "nongamers" and be cool with it. But game design wise, there's nothing worse than forcing people into going full swarm mode over that one ressource being arbitrary mandatory for anything.
