So let me ask some questions. Im just on my 2nd week of hte deep desert farming, getting me and my buddies all loaded on t6 armor and such. Working our way through.

We just make a vare bones base in the Deep Desert with storage, load that up on spice and materials, have very little water and such in the base its just a hub. Whats the bonus of building big bases with a bunch of power and wind farms every week?

Depends

1) Building costs 50% less in Deep Desert. If you don't have much in the way of materials, it is much cheaper to build things like a large spice refiner or large ore refiner in DD.
2) Right now the most you can bring from DD to Hagga is 1000 weight in an assault cargo - processed materials typically weigh less than raw materials, so it can save you a bit of back and forth

They're testing the ability to carry vehicles from Hagga to DD and vice versa, at which point it might make less sense to bother with a complex DD base and it is better to just haul crap back to Hagga in a buggy/spice crawler/carrier cargo container when they add that

It's about what you have to haul home. It's more efficient to process in the DD and bring the finished goods home. However this means using lots of passive water. When you are rich with resources this is what you should be doing.

I handled it by yet a third base in the A Row of DD right near the line. That way I could use carrier to bring large volumes to that base and then quickly make assault copter trips back and forth across the line cutting out 20km of travel each trip.

Having said that I did all of this for absolutely nothing, we were swimming in spice and jack all to do. We never even used it.

Just a heads up on my server, I won't be renewing it, gportal is a garbage server host. A month of canned responses to server issues, they don't even have a support section on their forums for Dune, and there's even ads for Hindi TV and moving companies posted on their support forums that have been there for months.

Anyone that played on my server, supposedly your character/bank will exist on that world server, so if it matters to you, and you want to continue with gportal, grab your shit, stick in in the bank/char inv, and grab a server on Plasdust.

Used gportal for years for a variety of games, never again. Should have realized when Funcom dropped them for Nitrado, there was a reason for it.

So we're (we = me and 2 friends, only 1 is helping with it this week as the other works on getting his assault orni built) on our first real week of having a DD base, just farming the initial ore and messing w/ the PVE content out there for the first time. Was wondering how much of a grind / how difficult it would be to farm some of the DD-only components.... and then last night learned about treasure hunting. Holy cow.

So yeah, only thing left as a constraint in the whole game now is... spice. I suppose that's how it should be, but still really surprised at how easy it was to farm materials with treasure hunting, feels like a bit too much to end up w/ hundreds of components and raw materials in just 10-15 minutes, but I guess that was never meant to be a hard bottleneck anyways.

Ya they’ve made tweaks to resource availability, but spice is the hardest and most dangerous to get in quantity still

You aren’t going to see any large or medium spice fields before mid-E sector. Morning is sometimes the safest time to farm spice - prime time you see a lot more PKs on average

PTS has some nice changes, including doubling the storage on an assault and making shoulder mounted launchers have lock on functionality as a base ability (not just Ancient Way)

Another week and not another step forward I created a carrier and I’m almost done setting up a spice harvester for my four person group to try deep desert maximum farming but I feel stupid because I don’t understand how people do move-in week with the carriers. There’s no storage so do you just break down your buggy and harvester in your inventory? And if so, how do you have enough room for the stuff you have to bring with you to build your base? Or is it just do a couple runs then bring the carrier up once the base is built? I was thinking there was a minimal storage in the carrier that would allow you to kind of load up. Just fly that thing up in build your base and be ready to go Then have your friends just bring their own planes or whatever

Carrier has no cargo (yet). The only way to bring in materials is on your character or in the cargo hold of a scout or assault.

They're working on letting carriers bring stuff like buggies/crawlers across the world map with cargo inside, but that is still a work in progress. The patch on the 10th will also increase assault cargo to 2000v. But for now, you gotta break down the buggy/crawler and reassemble it in DD. So ya, it does take quite a few trips depending on how complex a base you want.

Bring some materials to make storage chests and basics of a base, then you can xfer stuff to the storage from your thopters and use to to build out the base more as needed

Last week we had our first base in the A row and got a feel for managing that. This week I delegated that to one of my couple of friends playing, which freed me up to setup a D-row fob, and that's been fun. Been making a killing on the medium fields, first with my scout but eventually started just bringing the assault to them. Got the medium spice refinery churning out 100 spice a trip, a really nice tangible sense of progression. I've glimpsed a few other people in the PVP areas, but has been relatively quiet and a lot of the action has been on the other side of the zone from the fields I keep revisiting.

I want to make a carrier... just because? But have little interest in trying to run that and a harvester and being at the mercy of a couple people who decide they want to deplete their rocket inventories on a whim. A new cargo unit for it and being able to carry that through the worldmap would be great, but that assault to 2000v is pretty huge as-is.

We got our first large ore refinery setup, our next goal is probably going to be the large spice refinery and we have work to do to improve our DD base setups. Want to start getting a cache of materials too, 1000+ of every resource, get the other fabricators built and start making the higher end gear / weapons as well.

Some of the changes are interesting. The change to thopter missiles - no more trick shots, but they're faster now. It also means gaining altitude to avoid getting shot will be much more viable, as scouts can't maintain speed, leaving only assaults with boosters as a threat.

Cox has been my biggest threat in the DD so far.

Once it reconnected a worm was stuck in the breach animation and floating through the sand towards me vertical. Scary shit, lol.

Last night server shit the bed and booted people. Guild mate was flying in DD and worried he would lose thopter. We said it should be on ground when you can log in.

He logs in and thopter is floating like 300 feet in the air lol

Whenever I get any hint of lag in dd I immediately leave. Lost too many thopters to that place when the hitching lag starts.

Not really a complaint because I'd play this whole game solo if it let me, but I expected a bit more activity on patch week, and I've never seen the DD more dead in my brief experience there. On patch day there were some guys messing around traversing the whole DD on the new vehicle (they were successful for the most part -- one got 2300 meters or so without aggroing the worm iirc)

It feels like a lot of people who want that are all flocking to a couple of the servers that are very active.

My server (Aramanli) tends to top out at 50-60, lol.

The patch had some nice qol stuff but did little to address the end game. Outside of smaller patches, we probably won’t see anything substantial until the end of the year or early jan
