I don't understand why devs continue to believe that they can't design "meaningful" PvP that will somehow miraculously make PvE engage with it. It never happened, and will never happen.

Most PvE players are just not interested in PvP, if your game relies on convincing them to PvP you're doomed to failure.

On a side note, there is a free weekend that has started - full game minus DLC. If you decide to buy, game is 20% off also

I also finished story for the DLC and the new main quest - I actually quite like the story so far. MSQ especially.

One of the bosses in the DLC expansion quotes Satan from that old Mark Twain claymation movie from the 80s also after you defeat it lol

Its worse than that. They want pve players to be cat toys for pvpers

My first week with this out in the DD. So much spice. Not even sure what I'm farming for at this point other than to do it. Plastanium is probably our bigger bottleneck, lol. And of course the spice-infused plastanium because I don't spend much time doing the testing stations. I called it the other night after the wandering worm flipped the sandcrawler twice in 4 minutes ... figured that was enough of a sign, time to take my winnings and go home.

If you can solo the stations outside the a row then you can pile up on spice infused plastanium. I stay away from the stations that do waves. I think c-6 has an easy station this week.

Interesting dev update. They’re testing a way to store your base and all its contents in a base backup tool. Good news if you wanted to take a break and not lose all your shit

Game is in maintenance mode w/ my friends and I. I hopped on as we tinker with some ideas w/ our base, redoing it (rearranging the deck chairs)... I ended up flying out to a small Sheol base that lost power a week or so ago to go flip the switch back on. On my way back I stop at a small spice patch for old times sake, and just as I expect to start hearing the worm my game crashes. First death in hundreds of hours.

Blah, why am I playing this, lol.

At least the vehicle restore tool helps get that back. My armor is whatever, we have thousands of spice and plastanium, should be trivial to replace and I wasn't using a lot of purples, so not much to get upset over, just annoying.

The new cargo container is nice (150 slots, 15,000 volume), it's kinda annoying it's treated like a vehicle though (so no circuit connections), wish there were base versions so you could pool large stores of materials in them and then craft from them. As-is I expect we'll end up using a few for cold storage for materials and items that we're just overflowing with or seldom use.

Dev stream tomorrow to talk about next steps / Chapter 3.

Get ready for Landsraad updates, the next chapter in the story, new PvE activities and Testing Stations, a new DLC, and more!

They also added the base storage tool - I'm trying to get guildmates to log on and use it so I don't have to login once a week to fuel and pay taxes on shit since they're pretty much in break mode until/if more endgame stuff gets added

Some good changes there - Lansgrad moving to a personal advancement system makes it more interesting. Some new melee weapons/reworks and scalable dungeons/overland map locations seems cool too. Hopefully it can bring people back.

A while back they realized that PVE needs a different endgame than Deep Desert, I suspect they'll try to flesh out PVP more after they address the PVE stuff

I'll watch this guys videos on older MMOs and multiplayer games on occasions and I guess he just posted one on Dune. Just thought it was surprising he did it this quickly because normally it's older games. I've never played it so I don't really know.

I saw that - he gets a lot of things wrong about the game, which to me says he didn't have a lot of personal experience with it and he also missed a lot of community complaints. I can tell you what killed the game population just from having played it for hundreds of hours

1) Unsatisfying endgame loop for both PVE and PVP
2) Survival game style tedium creep (needing to maintain/power bases constantly or you lose them, gear degredation)
3) Poor foresight on player behavior (aka griefing and PVE player tendency to solo play)
4) Balance decisions that completely broke certain playstyles or made them non-viable, or made certain builds so OP that if you don't run it you auto-lose (for example, some of the melee changes made melee almost completely non-viable in PVP and even made it less viable in PVE...IN A DUNE GAME)

To their credit they are trying to fix or have fixed a some of these issues, or at least mitigated the impact. For example, griefers would usually gank a solo in deep desert and then thumper their vehicle so a worm would eat it. That is a big loss for a solo player, since vehicles aren't cheap...especially if you're not that established from a resource perspective. Adding the ability to restore a lost vehicle for solari (the currency in the game, which isn't super hard to get) at least makes that sting less.

However, they still have a long way to go. Server merges and the base tool will help consolidate and stem player loss in the short to medium term, but they will need some really engaging content for both pve and pvp to get people to come back.
