Thats unfortunate but I am no writer, can’t imagine writing a story with this amount of rules and variables while having the end planned out.
Matt Dinniman claims to have zero real plans and just throws out weird mechanics, abilities and items that he somehow keeps track of and then has the characters capitalize on, but I think he plans more than he admits.

That’s just how some writers are I guess, I can’t comprehend that either. Sanderson was talking about how hard it was to take over Wheel of Time because Jordan was a “discovery writer” and had a general idea of where he wanted things to end up but didn’t know how he’d get there. He just discovered shit as he wrote it. He would tell Sanderson “They’re going to do this and maybe this will happen, or that will happen, idk”. I’m guessing Dinnaman is similar based on interviews.

Well NM they back to +% on equipment. I assume he plans for crawlers to have over 400+ in stats.

Yeah, I was actually wondering what you meant with that first message. The equipment goes back and forth between set amounts and percentages.

That's the neat part, according to him, he doesn't have shit planned out.

Yeah I think he has more planned than he admits too. I heard a recent interview where he still claimed to be a seat of his pants writer. But I see a couple of scenes where I suspect he had the ending in mind from the start and they don't seem to flow as well for me. He did admit he keeps detailed notes on the items abilities and characters. He said if a character has a name, he already knows, at a minimum, that characters greatest fear and greatest desire. And for most of them he even has a back story written that may or may not ever make it into the books.

that's kind of the point of role playing isn't it? the GM sets forth a setting and the players react. not having a plan may be why it feels to true to anyone that did d&d as a kid

There is a DCW TTRPG. The rules are interesting. As a player one of your possible actions is "do something stupid". You tell the DM 'I want to do something stupid'. Then describe it to him in detail and he'll let you know how it worked out. They just use between 2 and 4 health and mana bars in that game. The health bars is in keeping with the book as I don't think they've ever given a HP total.

I have a copy of the rules and I'm dying to play. They had me at "do something stupid".

The game also encourages crawlers to call out new achievements on each other which sounds pretty fun.

Book 3 is interesting because I didn't care for the theme at all, but it pays off several times because of said theme, it's hard to really say it's my least favorite given how much entertaining shit happens.

Book 6 for sure started off as being my least favorite, but the ending was so unhinged that it paid off in spades.

What was it Carl said something like "No wonder they want you extinct!"

Burning through these, already on the butcher’s masquerade. The epilogue stuff is wild.
Of course Beatrice is alive! I imagine they gonna have Carl and Donut have to fight her and that other cat. Probably break the party or something equally stupid. Hopefully they go the route of brings them closer together but so many writers can’t resist the drama.
My guess is eventually something will break Carl and Donut is gonna snap him out of it. Also I don’t understand the whole river in his brain thing but I imagine it will become more clear later. No idea how Carl will react if Donut dies but not sure if that is actually going to happen as she is equally a main character.
Also can anyone confirm my suspicions that using that marked for death ring already changed him because he didn’t care he killed a ton of NPCs and justified it as they are better off. If not related to the ring than nevermind.
Only floor 6 but can’t fucking wait for floor 9…

I believe the ring and the river are connected as it started right after he used the ring. Like the river is his madness or rage or some bad mental health thing and it’s making it worse. It’s also addictive and causes him to keep getting more reckless with it’s use. That’s all I’ll say, going deeper would spoil some stuff.

I took it to mean the ring caused the river. But my wife says he had a ton of unresolved shit and she thinks he always had the river. The river might have even caused him to use the ring. She's got more experience with crazy then me.

There's a lot of funny shit in this series. Sluggalos has been one of my favorites though.

Found this game, seems to be the closest game to the books in terms of all the options.

I still say it's a lot like nethack. You can even start with a pet cat and polymorph it into different stuff. Lots of weird interactions with items and spells and status effects. Tons of different classes and races and stuff.

I just assumed that this was one of the reasons Mordecai was so adamant that Carl get rid of the ring ASAP.

Here's the one I was talking about. Got it from the Matt diniman discord.

Jesus...that is as vague as it is long. Would take me probably months of downtime to figure out how to run this.
