Totally disagree about the quality declining. I could understand not liking a particular setting or something, like I didn’t care for the trains. Also didn’t really like the card battles as much. The quality stayed good the whole series so far. Hopefully he keeps that up and sticks the landing.

I hated the train setting and thought that was the e low point of the series. I didn’t particularly care for the card battles, but the cards characters themselves are fantastic. Fucking almost lost it with Raul on the beach

Yeah the characters and that book itself was awesome, I just didn’t like the card battling in a real time fight like that, was just kind of goofy to imagine. That Raul on the beach scene had me laughing out loud listening to it on audio book. Hearing him still going in the background while the scene continued to play out was fucking hilarious. The “What the fuck???” statement when he told Carl what he needed was hilarious.

pokemon level was my least favorite book. But "I need a baby seal" is my favorite line of the series so far.

On book 5 on a re-read so far, and I gained a new appreciation for book 3 (level 4), Iron Tangle. Also liked book 4 more than I had the first time around, good progression. Book 5 was already my favorite, and this time around is audiobooks, and holy shit are they good. I will enjoy this immensely.

I found it interesting that one of the biggest complaints about the Iron Tangle was how chaotic it seemed to be and how it was hard to follow at points. I read an interview with the auther and he was asked how he plans the books out and he said he doesn't. He just sits down and starts writing with no definitive idea of what's happening too far in advance. He basically has an idea of how it will end and just writes as he goes to get to that point, which may explain why the books are as chaotic as they are.

I think this serves the series well, except in the Iron Tangle. It was a bit much there.
