Sometimes shitlibs make entertaining content. I could tell from some of his writings which way he leans. But he's never been preachy or DEI heavy. His pop culture references are mostly tame and funny. I have no regrets handing some of my money over to him.

It's a good story even if it is a derivative mash up of hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and dungeons and dragons. If you enjoy that material I can't see how you wouldn't enjoy this.

To me the last few books fall a little short because it's become more hitchhikers and less dungeons. The overthrowing the galactic empire stuff just gets kind of silly sometimes with all the writing carl into a corner but always having him come back and win out of nowhere.

I just finished book 3 last night. Glad it's over. The ending was worth the slog but it was a hard read. Started book 4 this morning.

They just said "problematic" a lot.

I listen to DCC readthrough podcasts and it's kind of funny how every show, when they get to book 3 have to do some kind of warning or disclaimer about critical drinker. The worst one did a full blown sincere (I guess) trigger warning. They all say how horrible the part was. Meanwhile, I'm thinking if you didn't tell me this one character was a different person, I never would have known.

I've never seen a single critical drinker video, but they say he wasn't very political back when jeff and matt were both fans of his and he recorded that part.

Yeah that's them grasping at any straw they possibly can to try and distance themselves from a "maga chud" or whatever the latest NPC buzzword is. We're in the middle of a fresh TDS pandemic and while Drinker's content looks to be more or less the same judging from a quick scrollback to when the third book was released, I'm guessing he was much less known five years ago compared to now when he has nearly 3 million YT subs.

So he didn't slowly start to talk more about DEI ruining movies starting in 2020? That was a specific claim I heard. If you say that's cope I wont' argue because only one of us (at most) has watched his videos.

I don't know if he did or didn't because im not gonna spend even more time scrolling back through his YT postings. Even if there was some kind of major tonal shift in 2020, if he was so horrified by the dude's content he had plenty of time to choose not to give him a bit part in the third book that didn't come out until mid 2021.

I don’t agree the quality has dropped, but I have caught hints of wokeness.

Biggest thing that comes to mind immediately is his descriptions of Ifechi and Imogen. The stunningly beautiful bald black African woman, ah yes. Of course. Same shit RJ did with the queen of the seanchan, complete nonsense.

And re: Drinker, to be fair if I were Dinniman I might try to distance myself too. His performance in the audiobook is absolutely terrible, it stands out against all of Hays’ voices in stark contrast. Terrible “acting,” when all of Jeff’s work is very well acted. Very jarring and I hate it every time I hear it.

On re-reads I just start on book 4. That's when the series really opens up. Books 1-3 are like the tutorial.

His performance isn’t why he’s trying to distance though. It’s just the politics.
