There are several great characters and some fucking hilarious moments in that one. I didn’t care for the deck fighting either but just think of them as summons and extra abilities and it’s basically like the rest of the books.

Of course, I thought they were going to die at the end of book 1 and pick a different person to follow going forward.

I mean the fandom doesn't expect a happy ending. I think the last couple of books are gonna be brutal with characters killed off. I don't know if Carl and Donut make it out in the finale. I think Donut dying and Carl living would be a brutal one.
