I mean the fandom doesn't expect a happy ending. I think the last couple of books are gonna be brutal with characters killed off. I don't know if Carl and Donut make it out in the finale. I think Donut dying and Carl living would be a brutal one.

I expect something more bittersweet - like Carl survives but Donut reverts back to a normal cat (perhaps willfully to avoid guilt over atrocities she committed).

my guess is donut dies; carl merges w/ the ai, some primal compatible host for more control, carl reverts the planet while keeping the ai's power to protect earth.

Carl dies, donut rages and kills everyone and everything and then remakes the world in her image.

Finished the Audio Book

Best part of the book was Hayes portraying the coked up Merc during the one race

The ending was Meh

It doesn't make any sense the AI would allow a pet biscuit to be used on an enemy boss, let alone the Big Bad endgame boss, there would clearly have been a restriction preventing it; and it's weird that the end game boss wouldn't be sapient, end game bosses aren't dumb animals. The ending was phoned in here

Not the best of the series hope floor 12 is crazy, but only
23 crawlers
left, and still
7
floors to go

So

A prior race conquered the galaxy so hard they're like "this is too much, let's all go to sleep", then a future galactic civilization stumbles onto them and starts fucking around and they're now going to find out.

Sounds like a mix of
Mass Effect
,
Hyperion
and
Expanse
. My prediction is it'll end similarly to well, all three of those fictions. Carl blows up everything and turns an interconnected galactic civilization into a bunch of somewhat disconnected civilizations.

In my headcanon the AI deliberaly sprinkles exploits in like this. One thing I wonder is whether Matt Dinniman engages with the community and reads fan theorycrafting as he publishes chapters, and then uses those theories to resolve problems. Matt claims to not plan out books and just kinda introduce weird abilities and figure out how to solve problems later.

Thank you for writing “canon” and not “cannon.”

Tuco:

If the AI is on Carl's side, and really wants him to win, sure. Otherwise there's no way these enhanced pet biscuits wouldn't have been referenced in the Cookbook for having game breaking effects. This was for the sake of Carl getting a Centipede Waifu, which just doesn't hit as well as Patrick Warburton scorning a crab until it achieves sexual gratification, so the AI can later claim Carl jerked off a crab. or the line "did you just rip your dick off and throw it at me!?"

It's very obvious by the AI's reaction that he hadn't planned for this. It's also obvious no one had ever tried it. Otherwise it probably would have been patched. Scolopendra is now a level 1 crawler. If she dies all her effects still go off. She is actually more dangerous now imo. Especially since she's in love with Carl.

He reads a lot of the fan theories and has changed and incorporated some into his stories. It's more of a joke now, but one of the characters he killed off was because he didn't like the voice Jeff Hayes used. I think a lot of his stuff is on the fly. He would be an awesome D&D Dungeonmaster.

that’s how he wrote it sure, but its ridiculous that an item Carl got on day one in the dungeon could be used to trivialize the strongest boss in the dungeon, in such a natural non exploitive way. It’s a consumable item, if one can use items on mobs, like potions or poisons , you can bet your ass someone would have tried to use an item that can turn a bad guy into a non threat a long while back, especially since the specific variety he used in this instance has none of the random negative aspects, it’s not logical an AI of such a neigh omnipotent threshold wouldn’t have approximated for such an event. In the very same book he declares that he runs through various scenarios to predict outcomes, he even ran predictions on alternate realities for the crawlers themselves.

in fact here’s the quote from Book1

Enhanced Pet Biscuit.
So, it looks like a regular pet biscuit. It’s not.
Feed to your pet at your own risk. What’s the worst that can happen?

it says “your pet”, implying it’s for a pet, yes it doesn’t explicitly use exclusionary terminology, but its rare in any item description of any game that descriptions are formed around negative logic. That it mentions Pet implies a positive logic association If Pet-flag = Y, etc…

Here’s paramour:

Enriched Pet Biscuit. “The Paramour.” This is a unique item. Okay, so we all know by now what enhanced pet biscuits do. While extremely valuable, enhanced pet biscuits are items that leave the result up to chance, and when you feed your pet one, there’s a very real risk you’ll be saying goodbye to your furry friend forever. Or they’ll be saying goodbye to you. Princess Donut is the lucky result of a pet biscuit that gave her the “Enhanced Growth” benefit. Prepotente is one that received the “Smarty-Pants” benefit. Both of these are results under the Party Companion subtree of the result list with Donut under tree path one and Prepotente under tree path two. Bianca received the “Hellspawn Familiar” benefit, which is under the Pet subtree. These are all considered good results. This is an Enriched Pet Biscuit. This leaves nothing to chance. These are highly refined pet biscuits with a known result. “This biscuit imparts the “Paramour” benefit. This is a subset of the Party Companion tree. It will have the following effects on any pet or animal-class mob who consumes it: Non-sapient pets will have their Intelligence and Wisdom* stat raised to at least 3 and then additionally enhanced to be commensurate with their original form. Their level will be reset to level 1. Dungeon-born pets will be given a crawler number and assigned crawler status. The former pet will be required to find a safe room and choose a class if this is consumed after the third floor begins. The pet will be given a subtree two-B transformation. This will result in a physical transformation to an oxygen-breathing, upright form. The resulting height will be within 1 and 2.5 meters with a mass proportional with their new form. Winged creatures will retain wings but will no longer have the ability to naturally fly. Blah, blah, blah. You know, basically a cat girl. A mascot. A furry, depending on what their original form was. This is what happened to Prepotente, while Donut, who was under subtree one, remained wholly a cat. The pet will be given the Paramour benefit. They will receive a permanent, incurable* charm that will make them fall hopelessly in love with the entity who fed them the biscuit

Look how that little tidbit isn’t in the original pet biscuit, he’s just doing that to make it seem like it was always a possibility even, because then it can “ seem” clever as opposed to being structured to that end

Matt wrote backwards from the idea to shoehorn in a centepide waifu for Carl, and it just doesn’t quite stick the landing of the other books. It would have been funnier if it backfired and the AI started laughing at him for thinking it would work, and Carl having to come up with some crazy last second hail mary.

the AI also said it knows how bad it is at understanding things *shrug*. Either way in my headcannon the AI is both an unreliable narrator and a liar.

This isn't a biscuit he got on day 1. This is one of prepotente's biscuits. I initially thought they were the biscuits miriam got on day 1, but at some point he mentioned he got them in a box not too long ago.

No real comment on who a biscuit can be fed to. I can't even remember why scolopendra was tiny when it happened. What was the description on the biscuit he was trying to use? Maybe it said something that led us to believe anything can be fed one.

My only defense for why it could be fed to the end game boss is that no one had ever even gotten close before. It simply never came up.

I am patiently waiting to see what Carl does with his Doomsday bomb.
I thought he used it against kepri when he activated run little gunter run. He was immortal at the time so it would have been a good opportunity.

But since he didn't, i suspect something will happen that will eject everything from everybodies inventory.
Perhaps one of scolopendra's attacks. He foreshadowed it with the attack that swapped everyone's inventory. Not to mention the bug fix that ejected the blood and guts from katia's inventory.

I convinced my wife the scavenger's daughter back patch is an allegory for a nutsack. When we get full we need to release or we get soul poisoning.

No, it was a big one but not The Big One.
