Doing a second listen of book 8. Two things:
1) Plenty of Plenty remains my favorite part of any of these books, but specifically the audiobook version of it. Fucking masterpiece.
2) The faggot shit with Dong and Corky or whatever, is my least favorite thing in these books by far. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I absolutely loathe it, specifically because it's gay faggot shit. The books had very little in the way of romance angle, and I appreciated that quite a bit. But I don't think I'm off base in saying by the end of book 8, the "relationship" that has been addressed the most, in depth, is in fact this gay bullshit. It's the kind of shit I'd expect to find in anything aimed at the "modern audience."
Matt is a pretty great writer, but I really wish he'd lay off the degenerate stuff (including some of the shit he writes for the AI), and this is the first strike against him, so to speak. Which is pretty impressive if I think about it, after 8 books. But I'm just so fucking tired of it all, it's in literally everything nowadays.
