Just started these books last weekend, and am starting on the third now. So far these are pretty fun reads. Haven’t read the thread, skimmed briefly a few weeks ago.

I was a little worried during the second book that this was going to be a lot like the Cradle series, in the sense that the main character is leveling up and continuously getting stronger while seemingly not being in any real danger. While that does appear to be the case here, the author has done a good job of making the world (universe) and game show incredibly interesting. Grinding and leveling up is fun enough, and the boss battles are cool, but the game itself and the universe that spawned it is what’s got me intrigued the most now.

Enjoying it so far!

Word of advice, stick with 3. I believe everyone struggled with it ( I know I did). It's at least better than an ICE book ;)

The books open up pretty quickly to the bigger universe happenings.

There's also plenty of danger, everyone in the story including Carl and Donut is often put into positions of real danger. I think you're right that Book 1 and maybe portions of Book 2 felt like no real danger for Carl and Donut, but that changes.
