The performance of this game is absolute dog shit and if you turn the settings down it looks almost as bad as the original. The complete lack of any apparent optimization is actually kind of impressive. I feel lucky any time I'm getting more than 30 frames in the open world.

I can get 60-100 fps outdoors at 3440x1440, high settings including HW Lumen, but it requires FSR 3 on quality + framegen to do it. And when I say 60-100 fps I mean that literally; it's some of the worst frame pacing I have ever seen in any game, just constantly fluctuating. If I try to just lock the fps to 60 it goes horribly wrong with tons of lag and hitching.

DF found massive problems with PC and all the console versions too, so it's definitely not an isolated thing.

I get moments of 60 fps in the dungeons and it looks great but anything outside I'm fucked. Oblivion gates are the worst.

Now that seems a bit weird. I get anywhere from 150-250 fps in dungeons/other interior locations depending on how many light sources there are and whether or not I'm actively fighting. It's still not remotely stable though, and capping it breaks everything as badly as outdoors. I definitely wouldn't want to play an archer with how imprecise my movements are, and even playing primarily as a mage I ended up swapping over to a 15' PBAOE shock/weak to shock/weak to magic nuke rather than try to aim targeted spells. It just works.™

Are those numbers you're getting with DLSS/FSR and framegen on?

I'm on a 3070 so no frame gen but DLSS performance mode with an Engine.ini file from Nexus that fixed my stuttering and a DLSS swap to the latest. 1440p full screen with high preset, which I just kept since going to low only gave me like 3 extra frames. Edit - it's definitely worse in forested areas. I'm running around in the snow now and it's generally locked at 60 unless I flick my mouse around. Still sucks in dense areas though. I spent a lot of time yesterday running around Imperial City.

I am sitting at 250 FPS outdoor w/ most settings on ultra except reflections, shadows, and foliage all set to high. I do use DLSS. 4070 TI GPU.

Got this on PS5. Miss the KB+M controls of Morrowind and the Road Runner movement speed, but it plays really well with a controller regardless. Looks good, sounds good, runs smooth.

The only issue is my complete inability to settle on a character (which is my fault), and the horrendous face models (which is the game's fault).

Flipping through the "randomize appearance" presets for female Bretons and Imperials, about 30% of them look like men and the other 70% look like some combination of swamp goblin and cave troll.

Is the Deluxe version worth paying an extra $10 for? Looks like it includes some armor sets. Not sure if I want to gimp the game if these give any major advantage.

If the armors look good and don't break the game statwise, might be worth getting?

Not worth it at all unless you really like the look and even then stop being a microtransaction simp. All the actual game content (DLCs) are in the base edition.

Yes it's on par with brotherhood of steel power armor. Well worth it.

Currently downloading it now, but Ive never played Elder Scrolls. Would it be better just to download the original and patch it with texture updates?

No. Oblivion's original leveling system is total shit and that alone makes the newer version better besides all the graphical improvements.

And it's clear not everybody is having the same problems for the same hardware.

Yeah there are people really bad fps on other forums but I think it's some bug specific to certain configurations only. I'm running the cheapest version of the 4070 they ever made and I get 50-90 fps everywhere with all settings on high and no dlss/upscaling shenanigans in use. It's completely fine.

The joys of PC gaming. Half the games work half the time.

Agreed, if the DLCs were in the deluxe edition that'd be one thing. The way they laid out the website kinda made it look like the DLCs were part of the deluxe edition too. I hate microtransactions, but I've always had a fondness for Bethesda's DLCs (when they're actually worth getting).

I'm a bit of a whore for leveling up skills in ES games. First thing I did in the game was level Restoration from 10 up to 25, the minute I realized mana regenerates on its own without resting. Also Mysticism from 10 to 20. If I could do pull-ups in the character's prison cell to increase Athletics or something, I'd probably do that too.

The deluxe items ESP file is included even if you don't buy it. So on PC you can just install a simple mod (not available on Nexus, they deleted it immediately) that starts the two quests for those items and it works fine.

The items aren't anything special though. They look ok and you can talk to the npcs to get new versions every few levels that are identical to the tier of armor that should be dropping for you anyway. They cap out at L21 for weapons that are identical to daedric and L20 for armor that's the same as glass/daedric. Amber/madness armor is technically better, but assuming you have maxed light/heavy armor and armorer skills and wear the Bladeturn Hood you will already have blown past the 85 armor cap so you can pretty much just wear whatever you think looks best.
