You can start by not posting stupid shit all the time. As noted multiple times, there wasn't a ton of downtime with a good group and good puller. OTOH, it wasn't DDR either (well except maybe for the puller).
I was playing tonight and keeping an eye on all these things. The thing I find with mana regen, is that it is totally a "watched kettle never boils" situation. We had a HUGE fight and for the first time in maybe ever, I ended up completely out of mana on my wizard. So I sit him down, give him a clarity with my ench, I loot up all the mobs and do a few rebuffs and am itching to get back fighting again, but I look at his mana and he is back to about 10%. It's moments like that when you think arghhh....
But just take a moment to move some of your items around, give the low on drink guy some of your water, do a full rebuff or whatever, and a minute or two later, he is back to full mana. It's really not THAT bad, it's just that you can't watch it or its painful. As long as there is something to take your mind off it, its fine. I multi box so its fine, there is always something you can be doing so its no problem. If I was soloing, I would end up alt tabbing and reading the web or something.
But there is no good alternative. As soon as you reduce downtime, it makes things not matter.

I'm not sure the best idea to "lengthening the journey" is to make you not play the game(ie long regen/medding periods or long re-spawns).
About using downtime to increase socialization, I am not so sure. Back in 99-2001 maybe, but today? Soon as downtime hits ,everyone alt tabs out(if they are not already on some kind of voip), something I couldn't do on my shitty ass computer back then.

That's just speculation. I think 12 mins to full mama is a bit outrageous but if it was a few mins? Would people not just kick the shit a bit in game? I think they would.
Btw.. As a wizard who managed my mana... Most groups I was in flowed pretty well. Just needed to stay on top of it.
