Sounds like you didn't explore all your options. Not the games fault you didn't come to play man. Compete.
Like I said, don't throw all of the good loot in 2-3 dungeons. Besides, if this game is really going to be the biggest sandbox ever, then it should have open PvP. If you want a camp someone else has, then fight them for it.

The inability of people to find groups or camps spots was a problem in EQ. It generally wasn't as bad as you make it but it did exist, depending on the popularity of the camp, your class, and what level you were at.
Being a SK during the time when they brought a xp penalty to the group I felt it especially hard at first. But I stuck it out. Learned my class, earned a reputation as a good tank / puller and eventually was getting group invites to prime camping spots as soon as I logged in. This was before I joined a guild mind you. Being in a good guild is another way to combat those issues.
I do think that the devs have to consider those problems you mentioned but they don't need to become a WoW clone to solve them. Players will overcome the problems themselves if you give them plenty of options, places to go and incentives to do so. Games don't have to become hyper instanced loot pinatas just because Jonny want's a "WIN!" button.
Exactly what grim said. Building a rep and gaining friends was huge. Logging in and staying at zone in looking for a group for an hour does not always get you somewhere. There were many times when a group would claim multiple spawns by just having different people respond to camp checks. Gotta call bluffs. Sure it wasn't always easy, but isn't that what keeps you coming back for more?
companies cannot prepackage this experience like they use to. I seriously expect to beforcedto group with at most 2 people to clear content and raid with no more than 20.

You don't even have to train people. If you bing a group down and start competing for those mobs, the groups will tend to pull trains on themselves because they don't want your group to get what they usually wouldn't pull at that time. Then you swoop in and take that camp.
minimum. group wise consider that you'll REQUIRE 3 members to run a Fungi king camp when Kunark was new, versus 6.
