I'm stoked.

takes months to find high level spells. everything is found. You can't just pick up a mace and get chealHave they gone into how you slot in skills? What process does it involve? Is it quick like essentially dragging them from your spell book? If so, does that mean characters won't really have permanence and instead just be adaptable to whatever situation? (We need a healer, one sec bros, slotting in my heals.)
Or did they hint at all that either your gear, or something, will give a barrier to simply changing the entire premise of your character to suit momentary needs?
Yes, but ONCE you have it, is there anything sticky about your character? If I'm a high end character, can I just morph from a Wizard to a Cleric if some players need it? Can my entire character direction change in the field?takes months to find high level spells. everything is found. You can't just pick up a mace and get cheal
When they were showing a fly-through of the world and then concept art of the characters, they really looked at odds to one another. The world has a very realistic look, while the characters are sort of cartoony. However, I was surprised that the characters didn't really look that out of place once you saw them in action. They certainly work better than EQ2's photo-realistic graphics featuring characters inspired by Rankin/Bass.I think they could be worked with, but as it stands, they simply don't fit into the world at all. The human model I can accept, but the kitty needs a major face lift.
I'm sure there are people out there that have played a Kerran/Vah Shir for years and would've been utterly incensed to have them not in the game, but it wouldn't have bothered me in the least. EQ started with very classic fantasy races. It wasn't until after release that they put Dr. Moreau in charge of character design.IMO Kerran have always been the shittiest EQ race
One of the things they've been emphasizing is that they don't give a checklist of shit to accomplish, it might just say "Defend Halas" and the rally call can advance to different stages depending on how the players interpret that. What I want to know is what each "chapter" of a rally call entails. Serverwide effort to collect orc asses? Turn in stacks of wool cloth? I'm imagining the opening of silithus in WoW and that wasn't too exciting.
No but you can be anything you need at that time. They say world is big, pay a wizard for a port. Or just go "discover" wizard and port yourself. If there is any kind of important utility, players will just get it themselves, instead of having to rely on a another player. Like above, need a port, level "wizard" on your guy, need a SoW, level a druid on your guy. Just pop into any class you need to get what is needed, then back to your "Combat" class.Sorry, being able to mix 4 skills does not mean you can be everything.
Sure, I get that, and I'm sure there will be plenty of faction restrictions, but c'mon Tad.No. Its a role playing game. Play a bastard and you will unlock and tier up a shadow knight. There is no skill to buy.
See, this would be fine. If there was some permanence to what you did based on gear, and switching roles wasn't about just dragging spells from your spell book, but also setting up your gear to handle it. It SOUNDS like that's the intent, from what they've hinted at, but it's been pretty vague so far. I'm going to be disappointed if the wall between myself being a tank and a healer and a Wizard is essentially just how much time I spent unlocking them. (Even in skill games, there is usually a grinding wall from limited concurrent skills, like UO, or a gear wall, like EvE.)EVE has gear based classes basically (vehicle based), and I dig it. You do need to touch base to swap your gear out though. It would be very silly to swap from ranger to cleric to necromancer in the middle of a raid depending on what boss is up next, and be fully capable to excel at that. I don't think they'll take it that far.
I'll edit. You can absolutely fight on other side. They made that very clear. It is, but based on some of their interviews about Rally Calls, it didn't seem immediately clear if you could fight on the side to prevent Halas from being founded. They made it sound like Rallying Calls could be a story with only one way to progress: it's eventual founding.
If only Georgeson would have said that, word for word with a cigarette hanging from his lip.Sure, I get that, and I'm sure there will be plenty of faction restrictions, but c'mon Tad.
Play a noble birth, realize about 3 weeks into the game that you want to do some shadowknighty shit -- go murder the fuck out of some commoners and get your "You're kind of a dick, aren't you?" achievement, soul leech some bitches in pvp. Decide 3 weeks later again that ehh, lay hands was cooler than soul leech, go redeem yourself.
It's fine. That's cool. That's a more enjoyable game to play than the class base variant or the variant where you go to a trainer and spend 6 blue rupies to buy soul leech (which you can't slot concurrently with lay hands). That's a skill base system.
Considering the example they used to progress to a higher tier in a given class is collecting that tier's armor, you should have the gear at the same time it unlocks.See, this would be fine. If there was some permanence to what you did based on gear, and switching roles wasn't about just dragging spells from your spell book, but also setting up your gear to handle it.
