Also, the next poll needs to be: "Do you prefer the oriental hulk we have now or traditional fatties for Ogres?" Bring back fat ogres. I'm going to start a movement.
They already departed from that style of Ogre with Luclin models, and followed it up in EverQuest 2.

I wouldn't hold my breath for it's return.

I think Georgeson already said that he was wanting more educated, war general type ogres. To me, it looks like an old Chinese elder just turned into the hulk.

"Player stats are called attributes. Equipment will not provide attributes. Additional attributes will be extremely rare and will require tremendous effort to modify. All attributes will have impactful meaning for all classes."

So, armor doesn't effect stats. Is there a good description of what it does impact? I guess I overlooked it.

So it sounds like raids are set to be the equivalent of "stack as many friends as it takes to kill the big boss" rather than the raw "ok bros here's 10 new raids to churn through." Hopefully there are some really big bosses out there.
I'm fine with that. Require multiple guilds to team up to kill some bosses. Make those bosses open-world as well. This is how emergent gameplay happens, by creating mechanics that make players interact - whether it be together or against each other.

Appearance has a huge effect on species popularity. WoW launched with a gigantic imbalance of like 75/25 between the two sides because the horde was ugly as fuck. This wasn't mitigated until the first expansion when they gave them a new race, anorexic fashion model elves. It's pretty even now, but it's a significant consideration. Why should the devs invest their time producing material for a race so fucking ugly that virtually no one will play it? Dark elves, wood elves, and high elves probably made up 50% of the EQ population added together of which I assume 80% of those were manginas. Ogres and Trolls had some pretty win racial bonuses (slam+stun immune/regen) in EQ1 that probably helped tilt the scales back in their favor, but imbalanced racials probably won't be a thing in EQNext.

It impacts their wallets when they can charge whatever they want at the SoE Store for displayable armor because it doesn't affect gameplay.

From what I recall, they said weapons and armor components will have a greater affect on your abilities.

finally! couldn't get on this site all f'ing day. probably discussed a million times by now, but i'm not going to bother reading 100 pages. my impressions: loved, loved, loved what i heard, not so much what i saw. not a fan of the art style. looks exactly like WoW. this game could be the second coming, but i'm not sure i can get past the graphics. and yes, i am that shallow.

I was worried about that. Is this actually confirmed or pessimism fueled by what the most likely scenario is? That'd suck ass.

Not confirmed, that's my assumption based on them removing stats from the displayed armor. They want to avoid being pay-to-win, so the easiest way to charge for cosmetic items is to make all displayed armor cosmetic.

Ok, after watching that video, it basically sounds like the class system is exactly like The Secret World. You unlock a class, you can mix and match abilities. So basically there will end up being a few good dps builds, tank builds, and healer builds. If you don't have one of those, get fucked.

Except from the sounds of it, you may not be able to get all the classes unlocked on a single character. So you may end up gimped just because you didn't know that Necro ability 031 was going to be required for your dps build, because you went with the Magician class where you're a good aligned character.

So lame. Ogres were cool specifically because in vanilla they looked like fat retards. And they were still pretty cool in Kunark because you could shrink them and laugh that they werelittlefat retards. But then in SoV they got theawesomesthat re-establishing their fat retard supremacy. No one playing an ogre or a troll did it because they were thinking of how cool Ghengis Khan was.

Ogre = comic relief. Way to break something you actually did right the first time guys.

So they probably did very little talking in regards to equipment and weapon talk then (post unveil which had none of it). I guess I'm just stuck in the old ways or whatever people want to blame it on, but I like my gear and weapons with stats on them.

This is one of the best decisions they made if true. It is completely retarded in modern mmos that you are forced to sit nice people because they aren't twitch enough to hardcore raid. It honestly takes something big away from your guilds community feel when you have to cut grandma sally who bakes everyone muffins from the roster or that hilarious drunk old guy because they can't manage to not stand in fire.

How are raids going to work? I don't see a tank going in, holding aggro, while casters cast essentials spells like slows and debuffs, dps strategically unload, and healers fight to keep you alive.

What I see is everyone running in and using AoE spin attacks while making a big hole in the ground. (joke for the most part)

Do we have any comments on how they feel raid and group encounters will work? I've read a few holy trinity comments but with all the variations in classes, it sounds like GW2 meets Rift which had its own issues.

This sounds like GW2 redux. I got hyped for the world scripted shit in GW2 and they failed. It really depends in EQN's content is generated based on AI or if it's scripted. The Rally Calls are a great idea if they do take lots of time to complete. Should offer really nice gameplay.
Still catching up to the days events.

Depends on what you are talking about Draegan. EQNext is NOTHING like GW2 in terms of gameplay. Almost every facet is different. Apples and Oranges when talking about the actual experience of playing.

But if you mean Hype vs Reality then that is just a cheap shot. EQN will be a disapointment compared to the Hype, but every game is.

So you can't just make that comparison to EQN and GW2. Every mmo has a hype machine behind it. Crying about it only makes you a one dimensional poster (sorry UT). Come up with something more original.

I imagine the first few major raids will be handled a lot like Lord Yelinak and that water exploit. Just dig a giant hole around any boss and rain fire from above. Then they'll eventually fix that with death touches or something.

Nope, eq2 got Sarnaks. I'm hoping EQN will repeat that come time for Kunark to appear, although I'd like it if they were redesigned to look more like the Droag race from eq2 (aka: draconians from Dragonlance, they're basically the same thing).

Ok, so I read through that overly large bit of lore on the EQN site, so if anyone cares, here are the bullet points:

-no indication of how far in the past this story is taking place, but I'm guessing it's a ways back.
-the Combine Empire exists, and consists of humans, elves (no mention of elven subraces at this point), dwarves, kerrans, ogres, and gnomes.
-the empire's currently losing a war against the Ring of Scale (kobolds are dragonkin, and are part of the Ring's army), and are preparing to evacuate Antonica (which they never call Antonica).
-the Teir'Dal, at this point, is the elven army, led by one of their princes, and is staying behind as a probably-suicidal rearguard action to give everyone else time to clear out.
-the army gets driven into the Feerrott, where they find a ruined city which has a teleporter hidden away in it.
-the Teir'Dal retreat through said portal, to find themselves trapped on a featureless plain, beneath a black sky, and there the story ends.

From my understanding of EQ lore.

There's an obvious part 2 coming, where they probably discover they're on the Plane of Hate, and the Inny captures them, and corrupts them into the first dark elves, or something to that effect.
Combine dates it to after Rallos Zek invaded the planes of power, after Green Mist wiped out the Shissar on Kunark, and after the gods cursed the giants, trolls, ogres, and goblin for siding with Zek.

Antonica is name given to the continent well after the fall of the Combine empire. Name change was made to honor the founder Qeynos Antonius Bayle I. Before that it was called Tunaria.

That teleporter in Feerrott is of Shissar origin. The combine do remaster the knowledge of how to use them. Then knowledge is lost again with fall of the Combine and then rediscovered again by Al Kabor in original EQ.
