99% of paladins don't level their evocation at launch, so when they hit 28 they'll never be able to cast their stun without going oom pretty much immediately. So here's a quick psa to anyone leveling a paladin. Load up those undead nukes, and level in unrest or some other zone with undead mobs.

Yeah that's a good call. Hell, as an SK I'm constantly dropping Ward Undead on mobs to get Evocation up at early levels so when I get decent-to-good undead nukes at 39, 49, and 55, they'll actually work right away instead of being completely useless out of the box.

PSA: Ward Undead also works on Necro pets, so if not leveling in an undead zone, drop them on the nearest skel pet during downtime to get the skill up.

What enchanters need is a low level AA ability called "I have deep vein thrombosis and have to take a piss" which banishes a mob for x minutes so you can actually afk for a minute while grinding 1-50.

This is why Dazzle is OP.

There's really no reason not to recruit as much as possible in a TLP if you're hoping to compete in open world, especially as attrition decreases active players through the expansions. The game is too easy for quality to matter much.

RI is too cliquey to ever really have huge numbers. It's a bunch of people that have played with each other several times before. Leadership wants things done the way they do them and if you don't know what their preferred method is get ready to get dressed down for your mistake. Chat binds with years-old running gags involving people that aren't playing are common. People are shown the door quickly. They play well and put in a huge effort but it's all too much for a lot of people and that's how they like it. The side issue they've got going is their recent history. Vaniki was a gimmicky mess with a low server pop and achievements that weren't really attainable after a certain point unless you were backtracking. Their last recruitment post on the forums was from July for a server that launched in May. They blew a huge amount of guild energy on Luclin keys to then not need them and a ban wave hit theme especially hard. Taking down Mith Marr, RZ and then Solusek Ro for the achievement was the peak.

Vaniki being Vaniki wouldn't normally matter but then they quit out on EQ a couple of weeks in to Luclin to go play WoW Season of Discovery. In their defense Luclin came packaged with an economy-nuking dupe plus the bonus exp per max level character didn't work in regards to AAs. A lot of people spent a lot of resources getting several level 60 characters so their AA would fly and it just didn't work. I get why people bailed but that's two guilds in a row that folded up much sooner than was originally estimated. Members were told over and over they were going to PoP all the way back to the guild's formation. In Luclin a break was called but the plan was still PoP. When the break is over it's all "oh hey, if you guys want to keep playing EQ you probably should find another guild." Leadership knew when they called that break they weren't coming back but they strung people along just in case SoD shit itself.

Fast-forward to the 25th anniversary server and if you're looking to pick between the two declared open-world guilds one of them has called it quits early twice in two cycles. Instead of making new friends and building inroads RI lost influence. If you didn't want to play SoD you got shafted. It's bad PR plus an easily line of attack for Faceless to take. RI got by with a fairly svelt guild on Oakwynd due to how incredibly soft that server was but that's not going to be the case on the 25th. They'll need bodies and it's going to be tough getting them. I have no doubt they'll snag targets as in addition to playing well they are unabashed cheaters but 2nd place is going to be it.

Really rustles my jimmies that SKs get Endure Disease and Endure Cold, but only get Resist Cold. Makes no sense that they don't get Resist Disease, since their root class does (and Paladin does at 50). Most definitely this was a dev oversight that nobody ever noticed. Every time I look at the resist section of the spell list and see the missing Resist Disease, it triggers the OCD.

They didn't like the Oakwynd rules, signed up with FTE for something to do, quit en masse after a couple raids even though they really didn't want to make a guild at all to then proceed to dunk on FTE over and over despite having a much smaller guild. A lot of them contributed to Amtrak beating Faceless to the first clear of Vex Thal on Selo. This message board even has a badge for the forum members that participated in that.

They're not trash. They're cliquey assholes and they'll do anything to win. If this gif was an EQ guild

200w.gif

it would be RI.

You couldn't pay me to be in RI and most of that is due to stuff from Vaniki. Never played Oakwynd but not surprised at all that things went poorly over there. Nothing personal with anybody but there is such a thing as squandering good will, for sure.

All of that said, the Luclin keys debacle was something none of us coulda foreseen. We legitimately wasted a MASSIVE amount of man-hours on that only to have it turn out to be unneeded. That definitely made a lot of people burn out early, plus the ban wave didn't help.

Oh shit I forgot about the badge.

Anniversary tower tradable gear gonna probably be the new hotness this go around it seems. I've missed out on the last few progression servers so this will be an interesting ride around the merry-go-round.

Not to ruin people's fun, but frankly guild drama shit is a relic of a bygone age. Just be in w/e guild you like raiding with, it really doesn't matter. Also if that guild doesn't work out, just leave and join another guild. Everyone on these TLPs has bounced through a half dozen guilds or more, no one cares.

There are perceptions built from early TLP--prior to the AoC era, basically one guild would win most of the early open world targets. This would cause a panic in every other guild as they realized "oh shit, we won't be able to raid or get gear at all." A large % of the good players then bail from the other guilds and the server is basically controlled for years at that point. The consequences were / are catastrophic.

Come Phinigel, all the TLPers are still in the mindset that open world is supremely important. And technically, on a traditional Phinigel clone it kinda is--the loot differential between a pure AoC guild vs one that gets a lot of open world targets is pretty big. There is also a perception at this time that whatever guild wins to start the server, will be untouchable.

Fast forward to 2024, which is 9 years of AoC and special ruleset TLPs and a lot of tropes have been proven false many times:

  • The dominant early guild, often does not in fact dominate the server--Coirnav, Mangler, Selo, Aradune, Mischief, Oakywnd--all of these servers had top guilds peter out on varying timelines, and many other guilds found that they were just fine.
  • As the TLP playerbase has gotten "seasoned", the importance of gear has slowly been recognized to be way overrated. You can beat Luclin with basically trash gear. You can beat PoP with pretty poor gear as well due to Dragon Glyphs coming on line at 65. After that you're moving into the end of the open world era so every guild that clears content will have close to the same gearing.
  • Mischief loot ends up being so ridiculous that in Mischief literally all gearing at its core is a meme. With a MIschief ruleset gear is just something your guys sell for krono, because gearing your actual raid character is no longer a relevant part of the game at all.
By a huge, huge margin the most fun I have had on a TLP in the last decade has been doing small man stuff. You can actually beat virtually all EQ content with a small crew of friends that actually know how to box, and you avoid the plague that is EQ TLP playerbase that you have to share a large guild with.

Mischief ruleset is nice for the small crews to support people that are cool to hang with and not that fluent in boxing either.

with them confirming scaling to player count is unlikely in the last FAQ it’s about as friendly a ruleset you can get for small crew shenanigans.

It’s tourist season on Vaniki. Either make your own crew or buy a carry.

Its been nonstop spam from buyers and sellers for achievement runs and twink gear.
