I don't have high hopes. The things that made everquest are not in demand at all in games now.

They were never in demand, but we made it work because we weren't quitters. And our options were UO or Meridian 59.

What are the odds that they just modernize the UI and techstack and leave the core gameplay untouched? The system is rock solid and complex and the linear progression grow worked until much later in the expansions where too many AAX and stat inflation required resolve etc. to produce meaningful encounters. Until then "it just worked" (16 times the detail!).

slim to none. statflation is basically the only thing that DBG knows how to implement for maintaining progression, that and monetization of an existing system.

BluePoint is closed down, but they could just assimilate all the developers there and say "remake EQ1 with shiny graphics, leave most everything else alone". On release have OG + Kunark ready, then plan 1 xpac a year as a goal. Have like a decade long run there with constant sales + monthly subs.

Shiny, but old school name and features. Would think they could easily get enough players to be financially viable since, other than WoW classic, anything old school these days are from very low budget studios. Pantheon and Monsters and Memories would just be appetizers to more old school game styles until a "prettier" game like their remake came along with the PS6 era. Would be way more cost efficient than anything like EQ3, and the people who even would be hyped for something like EQ 3 would easily make do with a EQ remake since that is what most of them (us) would want anyway.

If I saw a trailer at Summer games fest where the BluePoint logo popped up, and suddenly heard the intro EQ music with updated visuals similarly from Dark Souls original to Dark Souls PS5....

I tried retail WoW for a few levels when I last played classic, and if that is "modern" mmo, I'd rather go so old school it takes me back to where I was looking into the pages of a book reorganizing it for the 1000th time while medding and listening for footsteps trying to know if it was an elephant or a cyclops coming up behind me since their step sound was the same.
