I know people liked POP, but I always thought having an expansion just nothing of planes was a waste. They would have a couple of those planes as a base for an entire expansion itself. Tons of content for over a decade.
Yes and no…
I feel more amiably to the whole lore of classic through POP and to EQ2.
It makes sense in what it is- to break into the planes and end up destroying the entire balance and world through our own huberis and desire for more power and power.
Many epics have this through line, Luclin lore didn’t flow as well because almost 3 at most people cared about what lead to Seru - and VT was hidden to most, but each of them was to show how their leaders were each neigh-godhood - the next step was the gods.
What didn’t make sense was PoK… “Hi mortal invaders who we know eventually will seek our distruction, please enjoy this useful hub.”
But PoP lore tied to EQ2 worked, remember all the gods were diminished to essentially dead, mere shades and avatars were barely able to happen. Lucan became a self appointed demigod by way of necromancy and the soul fire. Humanity and magic were all in chaos over the loss of the gods, and the influx and destruction of the power and balance- the destroyed moon of luclin a reminder of it.
It allowed a renewed struggle for the less-than-gods of Norrath to replay - kunark, dragons etc. all the while the power of the gods were growing in seclusion.
Back in EQ1 split time where Zebbo does not tell mortals “muh secret” and the gods we killed in PoT are restored- we all go “what happened? Oh snap good thing us mortals are stronger than gods bc these bros for another dimension showed up and we gotta beat them up! With OOW/GOD
