I've been trying to find some Classic era THJ stuff, like videos and screenshots and there's nothing. The earliest videos I could find were Kunark era. I really just want to see some people's gear because if I recall, there wasn't heroic stats on legendary classic gear and from what I COULD find, that seems to be the case. So for now EQL has very much the same itemization for upgraded items in terms of what stats they inherit. Seems the classic weapons just doubled their damage and stats so no Hstats or raw +power.

Again it's a fucking mystery how classic THJ was because the population was so low, but I'd honestly like to talk to some one who played it to see where it went from there because I'm sure they did tweaks over the 6 months+ THJ was out before they hit Velious I'd just like to see if some of those problems exist in EQL or if it's mostly a different set of problems.

Very few AAs, and watching Broken Stoic's stream he said there is no way to adjust what % is going towards AA points, so you just kind of always passively earn them. Not sure how many you'll have by 50, but I know THJ you would pause in 'good' level ranged and go full AA since your kill rate vs level xp was worth it to stop and farm AA. Can't do that here. In the stream I asked him to name something that both EQL and THJ did that EQL does better. Took a bit of reflection but in the end he said bard songs. Asking someone in beta it looks like you get 5ish slots at the bottom that are bard song slots that autocast on a timer as long as they're slotted?

Pretty sure people were stuck just farming hate for weeks until Kunark came out. Here they'll be farming it for months. I don't know that there is enough content to keep people subbed until Dec for Kunark. They really should have just gone for a box sale + mtx with pots/bags. Then they could at least charge for each xpac unlock. No plans for anything past Kunark from what I can gather from discord/streams though so who knows if daybreak has another "you can exist but can't conflict with any tlps" style requirement on Game Jawn like they did for Quarm, etc.

THJ was just fun, it was that simple. The ”Challenege” was trying new class combos or maybe the super +x levels of raids.

but the average person? They got to just have fun. Daily instanced non-respawns of anything that mattered for loot, private instances with respawn for xp, awesome gear, no keys for raid zones(maybe a different unlock), etc. the list goes on.

the number of people that want a challenge fighting 2 decade old old mobs but with 3 classes is not enough to sustain the server/system(at least on its own). The devs are missing that entire point. That is what the complaints are about. They could have just launch THJ under their own name and charge a Sub and I bet many would have paid it!

I think people have it backwards. I think it's slower than THJ, but a non-retarded capable player will be "done" in a month. I don't foresee this taking people MONTHS to complete unless there's a slew of shit we don't know about it. There's guys in the beta for 3 weeks who are like half class unlocked without personal instancing up.

There's a huge post by Secrets in the THJ thread from a year ago listing all the stuff they didn't like about THJ and you can see almost all those changes here. One of them was how fast you got BiS and then what? So it seems they tried to find a "something to do" option to keep people engaged, but I can't fathom it taking more than a month unless it's a 4 hours a week dadgamer.

I agree a sub is absolutely not warranted for this game. I ironically think they have too quick of a game to merit a sub as it is, from what I've seen/heard, to go beyond the first month. I'm guessing DPG is behind the cost/sub structure because they see it like EQ with a sub price, but it's just not the same. They'd do better with a $40 box price and no sub for player retention than a $20 box price and $8-15 dollar sub. They just need to load the shop with stupid skins and cosmetic pets, but that's a lesson I don't think they'll learn until they've already tanked after everyone's first month.

See I think the sub will be fine if the gear upgrade cycle is paced well with the expansion unlocks they can keep a reasonable level of engagement. I do think the ultra hard raids they currently have and lack of real power in most combos is going to be what makes people quit not the sub cost or limited microtransactions.

The game is self described as being designed for a arpg crowd. I largely think it hits that mark 1-40. It starts to miss it around 40 and starts to wildly miss it in raids. That will be what kills this.

The only thing i saw that EQL did better is the Weapon Proc Augs. The fact that you toss an Earthshaker proc in different weapons is really cool. Of all the changes they made that's the only one that's positive.

Yes and this is one of the major reasons EQL will crash and burn. It's "too fast" for someone that sits at their comp 84 hours a week like Secrets. It wasn't "too fast" for the Dadgamer that plays 0-1 hours on weeknights and 2-4 on the weekends. It's not "too fast" for person that plays multiple games or has other hobbies. ect. THJ captured a large audience of people that weren't playing on TLPs, Live or other EMUs. EQL won't hold those people.

Hate was only farmed because of cleric armor. Fear was a much better zone. Plus, Cazic's loot was A+ Chef's Kiss. Don't even waste your time with Sky.
On the other hand, Kedge Keep was good. I remember farming a Fishbone Earring just to make it easier. Aside from that, the "end game" content was only Nagafen & Vox. Phinigel Autropos was only for a group, so he doesn't count.
Once Kunark comes out, that opens the game a lot more. The introduction of Iksar's. There were no new planes, but new raid content. Trakanon, Venril Sathir & all of Veeshan's Peak, but VP meant you were a true elite player.
Then Velious raised the bar even more by allowing you to befriend end game content. Dragons, Dwarves or Giants. I remember raising my stats in order to get the 2 bane-spells (Dragons & Giant's Bane). I would fight in the raids, but "plug" so I don't get a negative faction hit right when the boss was about to die. Good stuff. And Sleeper's Tomb! Farming a sleeper's key for all the guild-mates and sometimes their twink characters in case main characters weren't available for a raid.

Then next came the godsend that is Luclin. Suddenly AA existed. That alone really changed the game for the better.

The first 3 expansions of EverQuest really made the game into what it is. It's the whole reason why people love it so much. Just a perfect amount of growth for your character before getting completely silly.

this is all the proof that’s needed that this will flop and suck and secrets is a fucking idiot who didn’t even get the point of THJ. There was plenty of “something to do” in THJ without adding elements that annoy your playerbase.
