I think a big problem is that the entire mindset to gaming has changed to where people get REALLY fucking angry when they don't have x but someone else has x. Everquest worked back in its day because people were willing to grind and people were willing to challenge or whatever, sure, not wrong... but most importantly, everquest worked because people didn't see someone with something cool and say "FUCK that guy!" they at most said "oh I wanna get that too" if not just "hey cool" and moving on.
I understand the sentiment of just wanting a fair playing field and being cool with others who have more time getting more. I think we're the exception. Most people just get salty at the nolifers too, at least as salty as at a cheater! I had the top cleric on combine for a while and his gear was dogshit compared to what people with 50% raid attendance could sport on phinny+ tlps. Yet people INSIST they need bis. They throw fits if they dont get drops. Its not just about having no time for the game, its also having no stomach for being mediocre and an inability to just cope with it. So in the end it doesn't really matter if its botting or hacking or rmt or living on a fixed income... people are envious now when they play games.
The people who just play eq at their own pace and shoot the shit seem to do fine. These people are the exception though. It's also not just an eq problem, but, eq is extra autistic.
