Smite and Reave being percent based is problematic. The skills get worse the better your gear. This is particularly true if stats don't improve the damage. The min/max play for paladin is to swap to gear without wisdom or +mana on it (assuming the same AC) after your remaining mana in combat gets below your base (naked) mana pool. I doubt people would do this but it illustrates the point. This is why WoW's percent based mana cost spells calculate from the base mana pool. Since nothing else is percent based in terms of mana gains and losses, having a large mana pool as a paladin will make clarity, bard song, canni etc. worse for them as they enlarge their mana pool. (they will enable fewer smites and therefore LoHs) Reave taking HP isn't nearly as bad, so as gear gets better SK will start to narrow the gap or pull ahead. But if reave is doing like 3% of the total DPS (very possible, esp in groups) and you're losing to the boss by small margins then concievably turning it off would allow you to kill something you couldn't with it on because it is essentially a DoT on you.

I think for now paladin still > SK when paired with a shaman or enchanter because of canni and theft of thought (ignoring how fast paladins level due to undead dps which makes pal superior for leveling in all cases) but if not paired with either of those classes then SK might be the better option. They gave paladins 6% better heals and monks 10% overhaste so I'm certainly still going PAL MNK SHM at launch and the HT improvements didn't sway me but SK is more tempting and I may swap to it in other trios.
the stats do improve the damage in both cases. Smite and Reave take a fixed % of your max Mana or HP and convert it to damage. Reave converts at 1 HP = 2 DMG and Smite converts at 1 mana = 3.5 Damage. I would generally consider Reave to be better because healing HP is as efficient as nuking so converting 1 hp into 2 damage and then casting a heal instead of a nuke still means you come out ahead. Smite is middling because a 3.5 dmg to mana ratio isn't great once you get into high level ranked up nukes.

EQL confuses the fuck out of me. Other than having obvious cash grabs.

Like seriously I want one person to explain the reason outside of it being a cash grab to launch with only 3 loadouts and not releasing the ability to unlock them for free at launch. I mean it's an obvious cash grab, we know Secrets is lying about the technical reasons for only 1 character I'm sorry if you believe this you're an idiot and I'm positive none of the people here believe that, but you guys happily accept it.

Now I hope you guys the best and I hope you enjoy the game but why the fuck are they talking they'll be doing new expansions instead of sticking with what exists?

Velious was a great expansion and instead they're going to go with something else? Fucking why? Oh I know why, they plan on selling you a new expansion and it's going to be some half assed slop.

Like seriously if you enjoy it great but seriously there are so many things wrong with this it's mind blowing and people defend it.

Like stop fanboying and actually acknowledge the problems, you are setting yourselves up to eat shit because you actively refuse to acknowledge problems.
Wait these guys are not doing Velious?

Don't listen to that twat. He doesn't know what the developers are doing.
Secrets literally said they were going to make their own expansions after Kunark.

Why are you pretending this didn't happen, they said it at the same time they were talking about demaking zones.

They said Velious is not the expac following Kunark.

I mean it was all downhill after Velious - they probably want to hold off on releasing that to entice people. But what the fuck do you put in it's place? Luclin? That worthless level 20 expansion that added the lizard mounts as its only interesting feature?

The server is like canon alt timeline so they said they're gonna get weird with it after Kunark. Legacy of Ykeaha and LDoN hitting could be cool.

Well that's good but from parses I've seen, smite and reave damage is honestly kind of trivial at end game. The real value of them comes from recycling the long cooldown skills. If they didn't do that then smite (not sure about reave) just wouldn't be worth keeping on for any fight where you're running out of mana. For paladin, having a larger mana pool will translate into fewer LoHs over time because the cost of smite increases while the regeneration rate is static. It might disincentivize wearing wisdom gear (unless maybe there is no opportunity cost to having it) which I think is rather perverse. If there were high AC armor with -wisdom on it you could bring the cost of smite down such that your mana regen allows for infinite 3 minute LoHs, conceiveably.

Any fight that needs more than 3 LoH either isn't a fight you were going to win, or something is very wrong with the tuning of said boss/fight.

A Paladin with the Soulfire clicky thrown on another weapon is unkillable. LoH, smite to recharge it, Soulfire Clicky in the meantime, second LoH. I really like smite for leveling, but even then its a mana hog. A shaman with Canni helps a ton, but that's not until lvl 40. I'll for sure be trying SK instead of Paladin come live release........after I level the Paladin =P

I tried a bunch of combos in the THJ and they all had some interesting styles to them.
  • The expected holy trinity crap, sure it works but was boring
  • ‘pet cuck. Fun as hell, insanely powerful at all levels but took a bit of specialization at absolute top level
  • Brd + stuff, makes almost OP
  • my two favorites!
    • war/sk/pal: took forever to level and gear and AA but once I did nothing could kill me. This one was insanely fun and asinine tanky. Between the pal AA that heals and the sk AA lifetap then warrior stuff it was almost a joke. Killing could be slow, but made up for it with fun factor
    • bsk/rog/mnk: pure melee. This one did insane dmg so that basically I didn’t need defense to level. It changed a lot over time but there were periods were backstab was using bsk dmg and shit. Even after fixes the combo of all the triple attacks, flurry, bs, etc made it a dig powerhouse
  • another noteworthy mention was pure caster: wiz/enc/dru. Had some powerful nukes but lacked defense and any reasonable form of melee dmg. Since THJ was proc heavy I found this one lacking A bit.

I don't recall anything specific stated for after Kunark. They did say that they may do their own thing, or put things out in different order from how EQ did it. But they did say Kunark is next. So there is that. Errybuddy gon git dem epix.

They will need to figure out something for Velious, as that xpac did not involve a level cap increase. The way EQL currently works is you gain your AA as you level. So no leveling in Velious means they need to change the AA path somehow. I just imagine they need some time to make some custom tweaks to the expac to give players a type of grind, so its not just diving into NToV raids on day 1.

All that said, it is pretty dumb to theorycraft Velious when there's been next to nothing said of Kunark yet. They've got plenty on their plate to deal with before getting all sperged out about Velious in 12+ months from now.

I am more interested to see how they tackle Epics, specifically the path to +10 them.

Velious will be more AAs to farm and more spells I would bet. Add more loot to farm up and get to +10 and you have a lot of shit to be doing.

AAXP is ~2% per kill at 50 in planes.

Seeing how there is no barrier from people slapping down PoSky on day 1 right now, I doubt that will ever change. If you are max level on everything and ready to go, you're ready to go.

Motes. It's how you upgrade Sky stuff. Getting an item to +5 doesn't require that many, really, so it's a waste of time to do epic quests more than once.

The best mote farm is the real end game goal. That's the big question. It might be D4 sky bosses with a top tier build or AoEing crap in D4 hate/fear or destroying lower level dungeons on twinked level 10s.

I got several high tier motes in my single D4 Sky run:

[Fri Jul 17 03:00:37 2026] --You have looted a Mote of Major Potential from a blade storm's corpse.--
[Fri Jul 17 03:15:15 2026] --You have looted a Mote of Superior Potential from Noble Dojorn's corpse.--
[Fri Jul 17 03:41:58 2026] --You have looted a Mote of Major Potential from Bzzzt's corpse.--
[Fri Jul 17 03:49:21 2026] --You have looted a Mote of Grand Potential from Bazzt Zzzt's corpse.--

Kunark could have a fair amount of changes too, we really don't know, at a minimum I would expect dungeon revamps, a revamp to VP, and some significant changes to Cabilis and a balance pass on epics.

I could see them doing parts of DoDH after that with a modified story and no god arc, but it could fit well into a modified Kunark storyline that plays up Mayong's involvement in Kunark more. Then you could do Velious as the expansion after that with a tower of frozen shadow storyline, and maybe broken into two parts with a few extra zones added to each where like Kael or wakening lands is the farthest you can go in part 1.

Most of this is going to depend on how successful this thing is and if they are generating enough cash to justify the dev team full custom content will take, the less successful this is the more likely we are to just see a slightly modified version of the current path.
