I understand the law just fine. Its still a shit thing they did and I will never partake in anything DBG involved. There was other ways to handle this other than a law suit and stealing their ideas and making their own server within months of the lawsuit.
Not going to say you should play or do anything with dbg, but they actually did have to sue. One of the fun things about copyright law is that you do have to be proactive in asserting and protecting your copyrights or you lose them. You find someone violating, you send a C&D. If that doesn't get them to shut down voluntarily, straight to lawsuit.

As for "stealing", S Secrets had a 3 class server before THJ was a thing. So, who is stealing from who in all this?

Can someone explain to me what the point of joining the same server as others is? I literally have no clue on the multiplayer aspects of this game but my understanding was it was primarily to be a single player EQ?
Chatting and guilding is server locked. Same with grouping and raiding. You can do it all solo, but it can be fun to have 8 OP pals beating CT back into mud.

Youre talking about EQ classless server? This was nothing like THJ its like comparing apples to oranges. Picking up spells and skills as a classles character from mobs and putting them on your spell bar is nothing like having 3 distinct classes along with their custom AA mixed into one character.

Everyone here on both sides of the legal argument could agree that DBG could have handled all of it so much better. They didn't. It was a PR disaster for them and it hurt everyone. It hurt their own IP, their revenue, their players, and THJ Devs whom were power eq fans (one of our own) and they are out of the game for good now.
There is a theory that Enad Global 7 (the company owning Daybreak Games) is using this as a last hurrah to drum up and measure engagement before finally selling of the EverQuest IP, or Daybreak Games itself. Like they did with PlanetSIde when Tencent bought it.

And that this is probably why EverQuest Legends is constructed in such a strange way, where Daybreak basically tells everyone that its Game Jawn's game and servers (and their fault), having a separate subscription, while at the same time giving them the "official blessing". Probably so that EQL is not part of any IP deal.

THJ devs got greedy and caught the legal smackdown that was 100% predictable. If you want to be mad at anyone, be mad at them for taking the easy cash grab and getting your fun server nuked. They're clearly talented though so hopefully whatever they make is good.
My point is, they wouldn't have cared about it money or no money being involved. It was Secrets that got them to go after THJ - simply because it was making Secrets' mustard hole tingle that somebody else did EMU waaaay better than he ever could. It wasn't the fact they were, "protecting their IP!!!?!?oneoneone". They would have done it even if they weren't selling MTX (because it was popular).

That's exactly why DBG went after the "lost revenue due to declining subs, player engagement, etc." angle in the lawsuit. Because they saw the POPULARITY as the issue, really - not the MTX/cash shop/profit. So even if THJ had just done this "for the boys" and left MTX out of it, it still would have gotten them slapped, because Secrets is an unstable, mentally ill retard.

Enjoying that, but I swear every little movement of anyone's hands is picked up by those microphones. Those must have been taken from a submarine or something haha.

So you level to max and then reset to increase caps and level to max again and reset again and level to max again and...

How is this grind not considered intolerable? Am I missing something? A carrot for just endlessly leveling over and over and over again? Seems awful. Yeah, you "dont have to do it" or whatever, but when some dude has raised his stat caps to like 900 and you're at 500, IDK man.

The kerrans make me wonder if they are set up to work on models? If so they could do stuff like we talked about earlier, like getting monk specific armors working on other races.

Those are tricksy because they bunch up boobies on girls, so it isn't as simple as taking the naked mesh and just overlaying the strappy bits of cloth.

I'd love to see some of the flaws of the original models fixed as well. There are some backwards normals on some of the models that would be super easy to fix (dark elf female legs) etc.

While I completely agree with your sentiment, the only bright side is (CURRENTLY) there is zero need for it. People can and have smacked down D4 bosses without any of this stat cap grind nonsense. The obvious question is, what does this mean for future raids? (Maybe D5+ to come?). This would be the most boring and repetitive timesink imaginable, but so long as the content is doable without that grind, its fine in my book. As soon as it is required to grind that treadmill will be my red line and make my simply uninstall.

The question anyone thinking about playing needs to ask themselves is do they believe the same group of retards who have had a hate boner for this thing since page 1 and know absolutely nothing about the game and don't care to learn or do they believe the rest of the people who say its fun.
What is really strange is that these are adult males complaining about complete trivialities. Me? If I don't like something, I don't expose myself to it...like every other normal adult. Yet, here they are, grown adults, keeping their diapers full over a game they do not even play. I could understand such behavior from a child, but from an adult? Fucking strange and weird.

Chainbreaker. It was last iteration Ailia and Secrets put out before giving up on it and moving on to Quarm. And in a classic example of Secrets crashing out after a shitty reception he proceeded to open source the code and like 5 months later THJ popped up on the scene. The emulator scene, in general, has always been about iterative design so porting it over was nothing new by those standards. Just about every single THJ offered had been done before, but where they excelled was putting together in a very polished package.
