I can't believe these absolute speds were handed the easiest, most obvious path to success (Release Classic, get each expansion out in ~3 months each thru at least PoP. Voila, about 1.5 years of nostalgic relevance before you have harder decisions to make) and tossed it aside to take a month to make one days worth of content. I'm more shocked that DBG didn't give them a development milestone path similar to the above so they could keep making money. Maybe there really is nothing left at Daybreak but CSRs and finance bros that have never logged in.

+1 for using the term "sped" lol

Your analysis is spot on. Most people wanted the nostalgia and the devs just ... didn't (or can't) deliver. The devs haven't said a word about expacs since maybe summer. I think part of the problem is the number of casual players who think the game should release expansions like once every 12 months. The same people are literally in gen chat complaining about people who "fly through" content ruining the game. Those people are a small minority but apparently have the devs on their side becuase the devs don't seem to be in any hurry to release Kunark+.

So much potential but at this pace there will be no one left to play the expansions (if they're ever released). Sad.

Wait, are you saying they put in a full month laboring away on a fanfic zone... that you finished in literally one session?

Fucking embarrassing.
It’s literally just a dungeon zone. There’s an unlock quest line that is just a tedious 30 minutes of running around, and now that we know what needs to be done the quest inside the zone is a trivial amount of time more than just killing normally. It’s about like saying you finished running posky in one session, it’s not a ton of content

Thanks for the info.

Also, sorry if my reply looked like I was venting at you. I'm just frustrated with how DBG and the unserious dev team have handled a project I really wanted to like.

Ya DBG doesn't really seem very interested in making money. Easy lay up and they fumbled it.
Hold up are you saying this wax just a quick cash grab? No way!

Actually, its a cash grab by DBG, basically everything related to everquest is. It's not a cash grab by the legends' devs, though. They sincerely believe in what they're doing and want people to like it. Its kind of the problem for me here. If they were really just trying to make profits they'd at least be stuck in "what will people pay for" mentality and that can result in what I want, but when its "I like x and want everyone else to like x" if I dont like it, we're stuck.

I take Combine as an example of a passion project like this one, motivated by a developer actually wanting to put their concepts into play and have people enjoy it. It became exceedingly obvious when they opened kunark late and luclin early - that server was their baby. Phinny I think was a mostly cash move, basically a caving in to the casuals and nonboxers to give them what they want even though they SHOULDNT be killing naggy, and it worked out too. Mischief seems like a mix of both: a caving cash grab to give free trade to the masses in spite of developer disdain for free trade coupled with a genuine "how can we make this work and be fun" and having random loot as the solution to prevent a free trade monopoly, that took off and became one of the coolest rulesets when the devs started putting their soul into it.

So tldr this isnt a dev cashgrab, and what theyre doing isnt always bad. The problem (if you think its a problem) is with what the specific devs here want. Personally I dont think its that bad, rather enjoyed my stint playing it, but am not a fan of almost any of the "directions" the emu community went and therefore dont see a future for me - so I left.

Except... they kinda did? and certain things that were supposed to be in aren't in yet.
If it wasn't about profits they wouldn't have locked primary classes behind an achievement in PoSky. You can say "Oh well it's not that bad" No PoSky is ass which is why they provide a way to buy your way around it.
Races same thing sure some might be easy but why give a way to pay around it.

These aren't the signs of a product that isn't a cash grab. They knew people would say fuck this and just skip it. I'd bet money that the majority of actual casual players either said "Fuck this shit" and quit or said fuck it and just bought the unlock instead of doing the achievement because PoSky sucks.

This shit was a cash grab bro. They actively go against what people want and are hostile towards people that voice what they want. "We want Luclin models" NO FUCK YOU YOU'RE MUTED FOR A FUCKING WEEK FUCKING BIGOT PIECE OF SHIT! The reality "Here's a half elf we tossed in Gimp and changed the hue" it's now a new race... btw you have to level races now so have fun with that.

Face the fact they charged a box price, charged a sub, and then have a cash shop for shit that should only be unlockable Via completing the achievement. They intentionally made the achievement annoying they could have made them something normal like "Get the class to max level to unlock it as a primary" or some other bullshit instead they locked them behind fucking PoSky which no normal human likes. Only someone with reddit brain would actually enjoy PoSky.

Also you're giving Secrets a lot of credit for "Caring what people want"

Monetization is dbg shit. The stuff like refusing luclin models is passion project shit. Its the same sentiment as no instancing back when box crews were taking over. They could have luclin models and revamped zones but choose not to. The paywall for shit like bags and primary classes is monetization added after and not really in the same vein.

The new zone is tiny.

All the fights are trivial for a decently geared trio, except the boss, which is severely overtuned.

Items are pretty much all worthless. The focus clearly was on giving the weaker classes stuff, but the stuff isn't even planar quality, except for 1 item from the boss (mana pres III) and maybe 1-2 niche items.

You can just invis down to the boss and kill him. The rest of the zone has no relevance. XP isn't great and mote drops are severely subpar.

No idea why they invested time in this. We didn't need a worse alternative to already available content, we needed something better.
