I am not against this in principle. This was a hugely popular EQ2 zone that was quite different than the standard crawl experience.
But from what I have read in this thread, the loot is borderline useless, so you can't expect any longevity to the zone. It is a massive waste of dev resources porting this over into EQL only to not itemize loot correctly.
Disclaimer: I have been unsubbed to EQL for a while now and haven't seen the EQL version.
I watched a video that reviewed the loot. There were a few really nice pieces, a number of situational/utility pieces, and some that didn't look very useful.
The itemization wasn't the issue, from what I gather. It's that they sunk a month into making a single zone when they could have been churning on what the vast majority of people want: Kunark, followed by Velious.
While Nektropos was under development, the devs haughtily said that making it was easy and wouldn't delay any other content. They are their own worst enemies every time they talk. Not only was it a slow release for content people didn't ask for, it also severely calls into question their ambitious plan (that has been widely panned) to "re-imagine" and significantly modify Kunark.
If it took them a month to make one "easy" (their words) zone, making fanfic Kunark could take ages. And judging by the dwindling player base that barely registered an increase for the Nektropos release, they don't have ages to get people interested again.
Unless there really is a steady stream of income from retarded neckbeard Redditors that keep their sub while not playing, and DBG & the devs don't care about engagement, they only care that money is coming in
right now. Which is a very stupid, short-sighted view, but look at who we're dealing with. I wouldn't put anything past them.
