I was in a lowbie guild that was farming Nagfen and Vox at the time Vindication decided to break the guild rotation with its sleeper kill.

You missed the epic Vindication-inspired flame wars druzzil forums, it seems.

Waking the sleeper.
Wolfybite then telling everyone that they didn't deserve their epics.
Followed by your guild leaving the server.
Then there was the whole druzzil ragefire war that you guys were also responsible for indirectly by breaking the rotation on the server.

It was good times back then when people still cared about this stuff.
Yeah, I missed it. I liked reading it when it was about other guilds, but I didn't want to be a part of it when it came to my own.

I do remember there being a cycle, but my memory about that is fuzzy. I want to say there was some kind of drama or politics that the leadership felt warranted breaking it. I know when it happened I didn't feel great about it, but I was never a decision-maker.

To be frank, I suspect that once the decision was made to go to SH, the leadership probably said -- "Fuck it, we're not going to be here much longer. YOLO."

Even though we were on two ends of the spectrum at that time, it's still awesome, all these years later, to run across someone that is from the same 'neighborhood.'

Did you start on Druzzil or come from Fennin, too?

Prior to two weeks ago, I hadn't thought about or visited any of the EQ related threads (much less played the game) in 22ish years, but the popularity of the TLPs managed to inject EQ into my algorithm and I got baited in to taking a trip down nostalgia lane.

I came here looking to scratch that itch and just found a bunch of sperging autists. However, I did get a bit of rub going to The Safehouse and reading a bunch of old posts. It felt incredibly strange reading my thoughts from decades ago. It was also kind of depressing because I was a far, far less cynical, jaded, angry person in my mid-20s. It really put in to perspective how much life can change/evolve a person. Back then, I genuinely liked people. Now, I think most people are faggots. I'm not sure I would refuse a hit on the head to restore some of that youthful naiveté.

TL;DR

Yeah, no.

The only autist in this thread is the one claiming to have sold 20 fungi's for 400 dollars in pop

The reason I bothered to explain myself is because I despise being called a liar. Particularly when I am being completely transparent. I absolutely agree that what I was being paid was well-above market value (even for a unique environment like Stormhammer) and I have no idea why the buyer was willing to pay me what he did, but he did. And that's why I spent every extra hour I could spare trying to maximize it. I knew it wouldn't last long (and it didn't).

I know you enough on here that I can safely say you're not a liar. It's more a question of memory / getting things wrong given that it's been 22 years (Jesus).

I myself soloed Fungi King pretty extensively as an SK, but I can't remember the server, or even the level, and that was within the last half-decade. I want to say it was Vaniki at level 50 or 55, but if that doesn't sound right, then maybe it was 60. Bear in mind that I had some raid gear from Velious and Luclin, since that server had them all unlocked.

It's a fun camp to solo because it's so difficult. I'm inclined to say it was 50-55 when I did it, because I was barely holding things down even with solid gear, and had to keep the spawns spaced out on time. An add would ruin everything. At least FD afforded me resets, but I'd have to re-break the timing. HT was an important "assassination button" for the King if needed.

If I can't remember the details of doing the same thing in the 2020's, then I would expect that memories of 2004ish would be vague. However you seem to remember a lot of the details better than I would.

Selling fungis to one guy, as opposed to them going for that much in general, makes sense. Some people are just whales. What did he need all those fungis for, a box army?

Your memory is also fuzzy about the fungi tunic selling for 400$.
Sorry, but no.

That's not something I will ever forget because of the way I got paid. The guy mailed me personal checks. I don't remember his name, but he was from Florida and the checks were always $400, $800, or $1200 (that only happened a couple times). Back then, it was a considerable amount of money for my wife and I.

Another thing about the dude that was really strange is that he asked me if I wanted to farm gold for him in a future MMO (it was Horizons). I turned it down because it felt 'off.'

After taking a quick second to look it up, Horizons released in Dec '04 and my dealings with him were long before that so I know my memory about the timing was on track.

All the people saying it couldn't have been true provoked me to do a deep dive on the price history of the Fungi.

I'm 99.999999% sure I'm remembering it correctly, but I really don't like making claims that aren't true. And a .0000001% chance of me misremembering bothers me.

What I found is that from release until late 2001 Fungis were the common drop from a rare spawn. Obviously, they started out quite expensive, but the market got saturated so the price fell. However, in late 2001, the drop rate got nerfed into oblivion to be the rare drop from a rare spawn. The price rebounded a lot.

Stormhammer opened in early 2002 and had a MUCH lower player cap than standard servers. So with the tiny player base and the gutted drop rate, it makes sense to me that they were far more valuable on SH because of supply/demand. The server didn't have the massive number of fungis that had been farmed prior to the nerf. It only had what people brought with them or farmed with the new shitty drop rate.

As to why the guy wanted them. I don't know. I always got the impression that he was re-selling them, but given how unrealistic that seems now that I have more info. I honestly have no idea.

I never disagreed that I was overpaid. I knew that then and I know that now. Doesn't change the fact that it happened.

P.S. Rajaah, I quoted you, but the vitriolic tone of my post isn't directed at you. Thanks for being reasonable and vouching for my character. I remember camping Vaniki for my Willsapper and I heard horror stories about how terrible that camp was, but I was lucky and got it fairly quickly. A big part of why I remember the King camp so well is because I spent hundreds of hours in the bottom of Sebilis over the course of 3-4 months. I was literally down there every moment I wasn't at work, at a raid, or asleep.

At any rate. I'm not going to continue arguing over making 7-8k over the course of 3 or 4 months. I was able to farm ~18-20 tunics before that well ran dry and he didn't want them for any price. It certainly wasn't some unlimited spigot of free cash that lasted forever.

I think you must legitimately suffer from Down Syndrome. What about the two statements you quoted has any element of 'gotcha?'

If it's because I said I only received the cash a few times, then you are truly an incredibly massive fucking retard. It clearly states I only received $1200 (specifically) a few times.

The best sugar daddy’s are the ones you don’t realize are taking advantage of you. I’m glad you were able to keep your innocence all these years later.

Imagine trying to get people to believe that you could sell fungi's for $400 when they were on the bazaar and the dude coulda just bought like $20 worth of plat to buy one.
