I definitely wasn't a scrub or a casual. When I left the game the gear on my main was BiS or close to it, but I really don't know why I never sold my account because I had already been selling fungi tunics to one guy for $400 each, for a long time.

Speaking of which, I was a rogue and had no meaningful alts to use to farm the King. Doing that as a rogue, in that era, was extremely difficult. Locustlure was the mvp utility weapon.

I also still have my wife's account with a monk who wasn't part of the raiding starters, but was allowed to come in and loot stuff from farm content that wasn't needed/wanted and she got pretty pimped out.

I can't remember exactly, but it was 65-70. PoPish iirc. May have been LDoN because I have some augments, but I was definitely no more than 70 because that's what level I was when I logged in. My wife's monk was 69 when I logged her in. We leveled together so it's apparent that when I quit I had just gotten to 70 and my play time prior to that was shit for months. The camp was both exciting and rewarding because success wasn't guaranteed. Even when the king died I was always so close to death. If I got hit with a bad string of hits/crits, I had to run or it was lights out. Still died plenty of times. Same with the slow, if it didn't proc almost immediately and/or got resisted too many times -- same result. If I had a single shroom repop while I was fighting the King, it was a huge problem. I was just too stubborn not to try and rogues had the tools to get down there relatively unscathed and I was able to recover from bad attempts every so often.

Helped a lot that I wasn't a scrub. In fact, I was a really damn good rogue. I was a Township Rebellion founding member (from Vindication on Dro) and there for the serverwide firsts of Quarm, Fennin Ro, etc., but when Ciner quit and didn't log in for months I left SH and went to Afterlife for a very short period, didn't enjoy the vibe (as they were going through some internal shit at the time), went home to Dro and joined Hoss for a few months before quitting the game completely.

I've mentioned it before, but I was one of the 50 uberguilders invited to the original EQ Summit at SOE in San Diego and I went on to be the Rogue Class Correspondent. I helped Prathun tune some of the poorly functioning upcoming rogue aa. They even offered me a contract job but the pay was so laughably bad and I had to move to San Diego so I never even considered it seriously.

I don't mention the bona fide's to try to and flex (which is kinda pathetic), rather only to show that, at the time, I was really hardcore.

For years now I have always thought you were flipd or maybe it was flipt, a cleric from stromm. Am I just totally wrong?

As a proud rogue myself in eq I gotta say that tracks. Monks were soloing nagafen in kunark at 52 when they implemented the level cap on the og dragons whilest rogues couldn't solo light blues until an extra half dozen expansions worth of item/aa/gearflation

It's been 22 or 23 years since I've paid any kind of attention to EQ whatsoever. I'm surprised I remembered as much as I did.

And yeah, rogues had the soloing power of a wet noodle. To do anything meaningful you had to have amazing gear, be skilled, and bring a bag full of tricks/utility items. Also a huge part of it was RNG. I forget the name of the AA, but the one that allowed you to backstab from the front was about the only reason soloing was possible and you had to suck off the RNG gods before each pull.

Not sure if related, but I believe OOC regen was added in DoDH, which would allow for these sorts of things much more readily than was previously possible.

No way Fungi was selling for 400$ by the time a rogue could solo the king.

I don’t think a 52 Monk solo’d the classic dragons until qxx did it on Tecknoe in like Prophecy of Ro-SoF timeframe.
