I tried it again. I just don't love it. I can't see the "its like crack feeling".
I vastly prefer Oxygen not included. for the reasons I've suggested elsewhere. you have to protect your dupes there. they can die. your colony can die. mistakes in designs have repercussions. here, mistakes in designs just results in an ugly build, that you have to move later.

I've been playing a ton of Satisfactory. Game is great and just a 3D/Vertical Factorio (though still in early access). The games just scratch a weird itch.

Try death world. Maybe crank up the difficulties a bit (Bigger and more bases, attack more often, etc). I'm not really a fan of Factorio either unless I'm fighting tooth and nail for survival in a deathworld. I use this mod: Schall Endgame Evolution - Factorio Mods Bugs can evolve well beyond the behemoth stage to give you a challenge. I also play it with Krastorio 2, which gives you some new turrets and weapons and such and the Krastorio 2 endgame addon where you have to build and successfuly activate an intergalactic transceiver.

Getting into this after going hard on Dyson Sphere Program and exploring the tech tree in Satisfactory.

Just started building a railway to a nearby oil field in my save:

I'm enjoying it so far. I've played derivative games so it kind of feels like watching Godfather after seeing Casino and Goodfellas in that the concepts that were really new and part of the genre are already known so I don't "appreciate" them the same way.

I'm going in 100% blind to the game, so my build is just a noobtown but my basic strategy is built on my seed that features iron, coal and copper basically in a row. I have "t0" at that latitude mining them, then "t1" turning those into ingots, t2 above it turning those ingots into "something", t3 using t2's resources etc and so on. The whole idea is to create something that will scale with additional resources I need to add, additional intermediate products etc. I'm sure it'll turn into spaghetti as I climb the tech tree and I'll have to dramatically scale up production of certain intermediate products in some purpose-built bases.

I'm enjoying the game. I kind of expected the bugs to play a larger role, but maybe that'll come in the future or be something enabled by a harder difficulty setting / mods.

I'm surprised we still haven't heard more about the expansion yet. It should be out sometime this year hopefully. I still can't imagine what all they are going to add that hasn't been added by mods but we will see. I will probably get sucked back in for another 600 hours after the expansion.

The bugs become much more festive thing as the game progresses; especially if you don't periodically clean out nearby nests.

I really enjoy yoloing into it with different map types, like making a ribbon world where the height of the world is just a few screen lengths. Then lets you wall things off completely and push a boundary forward if you want. Just creates a different type of game in some respects.

Just unlocked purples. I have a healthy external source of iron, oil and uranium. Feeling pretty good about my base but I need to scale up production and am not sure how I want to do it. Will probably start messing around with blueprints once I get another source of coal and copper. I don't know if I want to start cracking out spreadsheets and measure ratios to get perfectly balanced outputs or just cheat and use someone elses blueprints

I think I'm about done with the game, here's my map:

I didn't use trains in Satisfactory, so that was pretty fresh for me and a lot of fun to iterate on. I've got a pretty simple pattern of single-purpose trains with two cargo cars and an artillery car. They wrap around to their pickup location and nuke anything near, but also drop off artillery shells to the artillery at each station. I haven't really tried that hard yet by building up comprehensive defenses + repair drones but I haven't found a good way to sustain bases such that I don't have to travel to them to fix damage from insects. There might be something I'm missing or maybe I just need to build walls + laser turrets everywhere and have roboports that receive repair packs from the trains.

I've got a few big research items left and will play whack-a-mole on research bottlenecks (next is low density materials), but otherwise I think I'm about done. Some of the mods and difficulty settings look pretty compelling, but I don't know if I'll jump in. If I did, it'd probably be Space Exploration

OK I'm done with my first playthrough. Maybe one hour of whack-a-mole after officially beating the game. I think I ended it at 50 hours of playtime.

I don't think I'd do anything majorly different if I replayed or kept playing. Probably create a totally separate "Processor Unit" base with a bunch of tileable processor unit blueprints. Would probably also "Build the Wall" and have a train just doing circles around the entire perimeter depositing worker drones, repair kits, ammo etc around it or something.

I never actually finished my nuclear factory. I ignored the used up uranium cells and extra U-238 for so long that I have a cache of them that will probably last for another 50 hours. So I have an unused uranium base and unused uranium train while having no uranium processing centrifuges.

I'm pretty excited to try the Space Exploration mod now. Not sure if I should add some other mods with it.

Just installed basically everything in Space Exploration's Recommended Mods and Krastorio 2 and started a new game.

3 failed starts on Space Exploration + Krastorio 2 on Deathworld settings. This is miserable. I love it. This is like when I first started playign Starcraft as a kid, beat the singleplayer campaign, tried multiplayer and got overrun in zerglings when I built my first vulture.

Hmm... Looks like I'm going to start a new map next month. I think I'll play around with circuits until this is released with whatever mods.

What's funny is WUBE hired the Space Exploration guy too help with the game...

I read he is doing new artwork instead of programming, but it'd certainly be interesting if they created a space expansion. It definitely feels like a logical extension of the game. Probably a lot of new things they could do that modders couldn't.

I'm going to run that + Krastorio 2 + whatever other random mods in Recommended Mods I think I need. Debating on what difficulty settings I want. Am thinking research costs 5x and Deathworld with a really large starting area because I'm tired of the early game.

If you're gonna do a deathworld, rampant mod is great.

:D

I just played my first death world with it and Krastorio and a few other mods, and holy shit it was a fight. Finally managed to get to artillery and smash the nests from a safe distance and blow away any swarms.

Incendiary artillery shells are great until you can get nuclear ones.
