Well technically Zeni wouldn't make that decision, they're a substudio with Beth having the rights.

And while it would be funny, its far too lucrative for Beth to do it.

Fallout 4 Exists, and it??Ts Set in Massachusetts - IGN

From the article_sl said:
It was over a year ago that we heard rumors that Fallout 4 would be set in Boston. Of course, at that time, even the very existence of Fallout 4 wasn't confirmed, nonetheless where it would be located. But wonder no more, because not only is Fallout 4 real, but it is, indeed, set in Massachusetts.

Word comes by way of Kotaku, which acquired leaked documents associated with the game's voice acting casting call. Interestingly, the documents reference a project code-named Institute; the word "Fallout" never actually makes an appearance anywhere. But the contents of the documents make it quite clear what game is being referenced.

For instance, the beginning of one page starts with "War. War never changes," perhaps the single most well-known line in the Fallout series. It discusses the main character's great great-grandfather, who served in the army in 1945. Expecting that the bombs that ended World War II would be a harbinger of absolute atomic warfare, the narrator expresses surprise that it took until the 21st century for the world to end in nuclear fire.

Another document makes reference to the Commonwealth Minutemen. In Fallout lore, the Commonwealth is the post-apocalyptic name of Massachusetts (and perhaps the greater New England) area. You can find the full details of the leaked documents on Kotaku.

After a couple of years of rumors, including a reference from a voice actor earlier in 2013, a trademark for Fallout 4 in Europe, and even a website that ended up being a hoax, it's awesome to know that Fallout 4 is, indeed, quite real.

Who's developing it, of course, is another question. Bethesda owns the Fallout name, so we know who's publishing it, and chances are that Fallout 3 developer Bethesda Game Studios - best-known for The Elder Scrolls series - is the obvious candidate. Nonetheless, we've reached out to Bethesdsa for comment, and will update when we hear back.

Pretty lucky for them to get a leak from a voice acting casting call. Bethesda usually only employs the same 4 voice actors for their projects

Ugh, way to ruin Christmas. And Christmas 2014. And Christmas 2015.
Yea, saw that leak thing earlier - next time I talk to him have to nudge him about that - either he was gagging for NDA or Zenimax isn't as tied to Bethsoft as they used to be - they previous to ESO only really did art assets, they're a full fledged substudio these days though.

With the TESO debacle looming Zenimax might not be allowed to fuck up another franchise.

Massachusetts is a nice location. I wish they would do one in Europe though.

There's no way FO4 isn't being worked on right now. Whomever the Zenimax source is, he's wrong. These games take too long to produce and it's not like Bethesda's Skyrim guys have anything else to work on right now. Given the usual release schedule I'd expect FO4 to hit next year.

Ain't that the shit truth, though to be honest they learned their lesson from Oblivion. Having practically every character sound exactly the same (not even as if the voice actors tried different accents) just totally ruined the immersion for me.

So, is that Dec 1st or Jan 12th?. I have to assume Jan 12(because why announce that so early if it's December), but Bethesda is an American company, so they wouldn't write dates like that if it were January.

Would only care if they pass FO4 to another dev again......or get their heads out of there ass when designing it.

The Commonwealth setting seems to fit. However on the whole the story seems to say Mass is not an abject hellhole like DC and Outside Vegas.

New Vegas had much more character than 3. 3 was a snoozefest.

Fallout is only fun in hellholes. NV had bountiful resources and I think the game was worse for it.

NV felt alot more dense. Like there was stuff to do all over the map. FO3 seemed like it was giant in scope but they only fleshed out a few areas. Like Vanguard. I vastly preferred NV to FO3. I think NV is one of the best games on the PC and FO3 is just meh.

NV was a community. 3 was a part of the world being recently reclaimed. That being said we can do without a big faction like the NCR again.
