You are experiencing two different things, I think.

Some Settlers can be Synths, but also, sometimes attacking enemies bug out and fall through the world or spawn underneath structures that you have built/placed. Try using the console command tcl to turn collision off and scooting about under the world/buildings to see if there is one of them under there. If there is, there is a command to kill it (do not remember it off hand).

I am sure that sometimes the two are related, but not always. Twice I have had a settlement bug out like that. The most recent time, I murdered every settler to see if any of them were Synths (and to try out a MIRV Mini Nuke Launcher), but not a one was.
Wellp I had the "Help Defend Sanctuary" misc mission, showed up at sanctuary and watched nothing happen for a couple days. Then that thing with the provisioner killing a settler happened and then the other settlers started their "fuck the synths" banter as you would get after a successful defense mission but the mission was still up.

Looked it up online and it looks like a fairly common bug. Fuck.

I even tried the double-barrelled Voight-Kampff test on each synth as advised above, but it looks like the provisioner actually killed the only synths (the other one was a brahmin lol) and none of the remaining settlers were synths (no synth parts on their corpses).

To be sure I even built a siren, activated it to call all the settlers onto one clear spot then called in artillery on top of them. Still no synths. Looks like the quest was just bugged for me so I just let the mission fail and rebuilt.

Is there an commonwealth-wide hit for letting that happen tho?

Dogmeat has no companion perk, and In the lore is included in the "lone wanderer" image. He is the only "companion" that has buy able perks specific for him.

SO the bug is he can carry stuff, not that he is included in the bonus?
There's a loading screen for Lone Wanderer that specifically says no companion or dog
Sounds like at best it is ambiguous and just as likely that the loading screen is incorrect.

Certainly given the amount of damage other companions do, you would be stupid to take Dogmeat if you couldn't also take Lone Wanderer to compensate.

I'm already getting annoyed sneaking around like a faggot headshotting people. I should have known myself and just gone full run n gun or 10 strength yolo melee build like I always do for these games.

Yeah thats why I suggest not going the op stealth sniping route first playthrough.

Its too op, makes shit boring. A good gun battle that you might have to struggle through is more rewarding imo

It's cheap, but I love sniping ;P Esp with a suppressed 50 cal sniper rifle...heads go splat ;p

When I'm in power armor I just go full Rambo, though. Finally got my T-60 armor and started to mod it.

If you like the .50 sniper, I want to introduce me to my friend the gauss rifle...... with the right perks in it I dont think I have yet met anything I cant kill in one headshot (as long as it has a head ofc).

I seem to have a Sanc full of hippies, not one of them will work the weapons store. I assign a settler to it, they go 'ok' and it says resource assigned but they never go to work...store sits perpetually empty. Am I missing something?

The "Named" people if you assign them to the store seem to do that - unnamed people seem more reliable for showing behind the counter - now that said, if you track down where the hell they're at, even when they're not behind the counter they'll still sell (most of the time - I've had them bug for a day or so when I've upgraded a tier of store and swapped their job to the upgraded location - pulls up an empty store window, even my inv shows as empty - it's an odd bug)

So, unless I'm missing something there's no specific Energy Weapon perks, right? Energy weapons just fall under the normal categories of pistol, rifle, heavy for perks?

Science for crafting them, but theres no perks like Rifleman or Gunslinger specifically for energy weapons, those two apply to energy weapons?

theres a radiation weapon damage perk in science, but no specific energy weapon perk no. As noted though, rifle, automatic, etc weapon perks all work.

Interesting, sounds like we need a mod where we can find them and flog them all way back to their assigned work station

is there a pc mod to reduce the headbobbing when playing in 1st person? I actually can't play this for any more than ~30 minutes at a time without becoming quite nauseated. I usually don't get motion sickness in games at all, this is a first for me. But FO4 is killing me. I want to play it more but I just can't.

I think they got rid of energy specific perks for the sake of the magazines. Rifleman, Gunslinger, and Commando all apply based off of what your gun self reports as (pistol, rifle, automatic)

Thanks and Updates for Fallout 4

Thank you! We can't say it enough- thank you for the amazing support you've given us. We're incredibly blessed to have so many incredible fans. You've made Fallout 4 not just our largest game launch ever, but one of the industry's. It's beyond anything we hoped for.

Seeing and reading your stories have given our whole studio immense joy. It's amazing to see what you've done with the game, what you've discovered, and what you've built! We know there's even more to come; the game is full of hidden gems and ways it can be played.

For some, the freedom the game offers can be overwhelming. We know the game throws a lot on you at once, so take your time. There are many moments of "How does this work? What do I do to survive?" and that's how your character should be feeling as well. Those that push through should be able to look back at who they were when they stepped out of the Vault and say, "I made it. I understand this world now and it's mine."

It's true that the freedom our games offer you can lead to unintentional consequences that are sometimes bad, when the game combines too many unexpected elements at once. Given the scale and complexity of the systems at work, especially when allowing you to build your own settlements, we're happy that Fallout 4 is our most robust and solid release ever, and we'd like to thank our amazing QA staff who worked as hard as anyone to break the game so we could fix it during development. But a hundred testers will never replicate the many millions playing the game now, and we're hard at work addressing the top issues.

Our process for updating the game will include releasing a beta patch on Steam, followed by full release on PC, then release on the consoles. This process has worked well for us in the past and allows us to get more fixes out faster. Expect to see more updates, that are smaller and more frequent, than a few big ones. This allows us to make sure each fix is working right, as any change can have unintentional side effects in a game this huge.We expect the first beta patch to be up next week.

If you have feedback or issues to let us know about, contact our support staff here.

Thanks again for everything. We look forward to our continued journeys together.
