+++ is another silly S/L fest.

Unless you've whaled out on 5* FFX armors, Sanctuary Keeper is very likely to destroy your team before you have a chance to build up a defense. Once defenses are set, it's just another super tough fight with slim margin for error.

The problem I have is the latter condition requires the former. I like the fight, once I've had a chance to get started; what I don't like is how difficult the RNG makes it to set the table.

Sanctuary Keeper was fun for me. But I got him in 3 or 4 attempts of S/Ling so it didn't drag out the way it is for some people. The VIII battle with the Seifer and his goons was FAR worse for me from an RNG perspective. I used a Retaliate Strategy with a 3*++ Fencing Saber (fake 5*). I was only hitting him for around 3.2K a pop but with double attack and double cut I was hitting him enough to bring him down. Once you get the full array of defensive buffs up it's not so bad.

With that said now after killing him once I never went back to try and farm him.

so stoked that Paladin Cecil got buffed today
Rydia is now a killing machine too with higher MAG and Summon/Black 5 giving access to almost all offensive magic. I was sometimes using her with 3* aga spells so this is a big boost for me with her Relic Weapon.

Cecil is a second character who can carry a double cut and White Magic 4 (Selphie is the other) so he'll be very important for Retaliate teams. With Double Hit RM you can potentially use 3 White Mages and have space for Protega/Shellga/Curaja/Slowga at the same time while keeping max dps double cuts - there has been at least one boss this would be been helpful for. Or just be an alternative to Selphie with access to high DEF armors. One of the few with a decent default limit break too, with the RES/DEF buff.

He's next on my list for 65.

Belias Team since it's a tough fight, sorry about the formatting I need to get screenshots of this:

65 Cloud (Retaliate/Tempo Flurry) I used Self Sacrifice but Dragoon's Determination is better. 4*+ Synergy Sword.
65 Black Mage (Waterja/Waterga) Vow of Vengeance. 4*+ Synergy Rod.
65 White Mage (Shellga/Curaja) Zeal.
65 White Mage (Protega/Dispel) Double Hit.
65 Support (Armor Breakdown/Boost) Sky Priate's Pride.
Tyro Sentinel Grimore RW

Belias does a lot of AOE damage but you can easily heal it up under Sentinel Grimore and Shell/Protect, the problem is that when Sentinel Grimore runs out you die. The key to the fight is getting out enough DPS before this happens.
You need to be using Cloud if you go for Retaliate because he is the only one who can also use Tempo Flurry, I was previously having Selphie carry it to apply Slow but you can't afford the DPS loss and slow will drop off if you don't try to reapply every other turn.

Belias might be the easiest +++ fight so far.

I've farmed him a bunch with this super simple setup:
Black Mage1: Waterga + Dispel
Black Mage2: Waterja + Comet
Flex1: Slow/Mitigation
Flex2: Heal/Mitigation
Flex3: Damage/Damage

I went with Vaan with mental breakdown + power breakdown. P-Cecil with Slowga and Protectga/Shellga. Then favorite_white_mage with curaga and maduin. RW was Hastega - if I got Boon, I set Cecil up with Protect; Lunatic High, I gave him Shell.

Incredibly mindless and no risk, no S/L ever. My team would often take one round without mitigation, then I'd have Protect/Shell/Power Breakdown up. At that point it's just rotating abilities - my white mage would heal everyone once, then toss a couple summons before needing to start healing again. Slowga was good for mastery, but easily could've dropped it farming for slightly faster runs. A bard for group buff would've been more effective than mental break(down) but I preferred the extra tankiness and damage out of Cecil for 80% of turns.

damn, those bonus battles in the terra event were easy. i did the boss rush with a full FFVI team (locke, sabin, mog, celes, terra). switched sabin for tyro for the ++ and the +++.

don't forget, orb fest starts tomorrow. same awesome experience/gil that the festival of gold had, plus a ton of orbs, with chances at major orbs. the consensus is that its worth blowing mythril on stamina to farm this event non-stop. i burned all my mythril on the terra banners, though.

but didn't get any of her soul break gear =/ did get sabin's SB gloves, a mirage vest, and that blizzard rod.

you guys have any lucky pulls lately?

I haven't pulled since FFXIV. My plan is to go big on Orbfest, then Zidane Banner 2 until my sanity forces me to stop for Lulu Banner 1.

Terra stuff was, as you said, easy. I took Runic RW for the boss rush, with Shellga as my only mitigation - first two bosses hurt, but the last two I was literally invincible. Kefka was a joke - Stop worked more often than not and I blew him up in only a few turns. I didn't heal once during dragons, they melted.

Bring on Orbfest! Hoping for great login rewards.

Also, if we get Lucky Banners this week I am going to throw money at this game. No doubt.

I got the FF6 Rod with the new banner on my 100 gem pull, it's my second magic weapon so I can go a bit deeper into mage meta now. I'll probably level up a "sage" type character like Tellah who can cast Shellga and a nuke.

I hope we get the Lucky Banners during Orbfest, I've heard that they are 25 Mithril 11 pulls which can only drop character items as their 5*s... Can you only pull on them once though? That would mean only 4 pulls but that's an average of 5 character relics each :O

I think a lot of people over on Reddit have overhyped Orbfest. Don't get me wrong it's going to be good but some people seem to have this belief that they're going to cap their Gil, everyone's level at 65 and hone up Rank 5 Meteor, a full set of Rank 5 Ja spells, Rank 5 Summons and so on. I wasn't planning on spending much Mythril on the event before and now with the possibility of getting those Lucky Banners (11 Relic Pulls for 25 Mythril with every 5* Relic being a Character Specific one), my new plan is to just do a pull on each Lucky Banner (we can only pull once per banner) and then hoard the rest of my Mythril for the next Soul Break Celebration. I'm already doing pretty well on my hones so I don't feel the need to go overboard.

It's also worth mentioning that the Cloud Event is going to drop halfway through Orbfest. Consensus is that it drops during Phase 2 of Orbfest which is the weakest Orb type so it's a good point to take a break to rush through Cloud's event before going back to Orbfest.

Yeah. It's basically just exp+gil+orb daily combined, so you'll get tons of 3* orbs for abilities you don't use anymore, a handful of 4* orbs you actually need and enough exp for maybe 8-12 characters going from 0 to 50. I don't see the need to use mithril on stamina.

I'm basically going to be getting the cores to 50 and making/honing some dancer/bard skills I'll hardly use.

the only orb fest phase i'm going to go balls to the wall on is the phase with Summon orbs

might even spend like $5 on stamina recharges

It's overhyped for sure but there are many players like myself that just don't need the gear. I've long since sold all my 2*++ and even though I keep the 3*s, I never use any of my 40-50 3*++. So spending 50 mythril on a pull somewhere is likely to do shit all for my account, while spending 50 mythril on stamina refreshes for this event is guaranteed to finish all 3* abilities I'll ever need, not have to even think about gold for at least 6 months or longer, and get most of my non-core characters to 65 (already have 14). Calling it Orbfest isn't really accurate since it isn't a huge source of high level orbs but the quality-of-life gained for sinking stamina is undeniable. Also, once we get orb combining this will be about 25 stamina per greater orb which beats anything currently available by quite a bit, although the new dailies might be in place by then. My personal goals are 2 copies of all relevant 3* at R5, R4 of all -ja's and valefor, and enough majors for R3 full break. The last one might be rough since it looks like our 5* orb drop rate will be dicks compared to the JP version.

wow, so the Lucky Draw banners really did go live. wish i had saved my mythril (blew it all first day of the first Terra banner).

now, the question is, do i blow money to do these draws...?

My draw was pretty bad. 8 three stars and 3 four stars. Of the items I got I only kept a 10 gallon hat to combine.

just dropped $15. got 4 4*s and 7 3*s lol.

was feeling confident after seeing all the pull success posts on reddit.

i just realized i have enough points on my Speedway rewards account that i can get a $25 Google Play gift card.
smile.png
was going to save up for a gas card, but fuck it, FFRK is more important imo. so another $5 and i can do the lucky draw for phase two and three... and hopefully i'll get another 25 mythril before phase four. it'll be close but doable with the Cloud event and the new dungeon update.

Lucky draw phase 1: 8 3*, 2 4* (a dumb robe and a dagger), and Kain's Spear. For 25 Mythril, I've had worse pulls.

Y'Shtola's Robe. One of the best things I could have gotten! And Snow's jacket.

Statistically you have a 99 per cent chance of getting something over 4 draws and the average should be 5. So make sure you get 100 mithril somehow, I heard that ~70 mithril is coming from events and dungeons over the next week.

I've got 100 Mythril (exactly) right now so I'll be able to pull on the remaining 3, the VIII SSB Banner and still have enough for about 3 pulls on the SSB Celebration Banners (I've done the math). But after getting 9 5*s on 38 pulls during the last Soul Break Celebration I think I'm in "Regression to the Mean" territory right now.
