I'm still extremely disappointed in my Sephiroth results but I've gotten over it. It just reinforces why we really need Rolling Gacha and how shitty it is that DeNA refuses to give it to us (each time you pull a relic and don't receive a 5 star you gain a stacking "buff" that increases your chances of getting a 5 star on the next pull which keeps increasing until you get one with the buff being tied to a banner so it doesn't carry over from one to the next). There's a lot of anecdotal evidence that Day 1 Global players who tried out the Japan version during their Anniversary a couple of months back ended up with more 5 star relics on the Japan client than the Global client in a significantly shorter amount of time thanks entirely to Rolling Gacha.

Anyway I've done the math and I'll have just enough Mythril to make a single pull on the SSB Banners so long as I want Banner 3, 4 or 5. That works since I don't need Wall so I was never planning on 1 or 2. I'm still targeting 3. Of the 6 character relics the only one I don't want is Eiko's Golem Flute (which I'll probably end up pulling since I don't need it and am drowning in WHM relics). Force Saber for Tidus might not be the best SB but it's still solid. The IX Sword and X Katana are both good upgrades for my current options in those realms. I'd love either of the BLM Rods since, as I said before, I really need a universal BLM relic (not all BLMs can use my Storm Staff and my best universal is Lullaby Rod which only has 100 MAG on it). Some shared soul break items are better than others and Banner 3's aren't great but a Shared Soul Break is a consolation prize and not the reason to pull on a banner.

Banner 4 has the worst SSB and I already have one of the two best items on it (Lullaby Rod and Lulu's hairpin). I plan to take Blazefire Saber as my pick from the Beginner Draw when we get that. Golbez's axe isn't worth pulling for since it's extremely limited in who can use it (Tyro and Golbez are it I think). Bustier isn't bad but I have a lot of good Mage Armor pieces already. Banner 5 is one I'd strongly consider on. It has the highest risk / reward ratio for me. Cutting Trigger would be awesome. Lustrous Sword is sweet but I have Cecil's Mythgraven Blade and know how limiting a holy SB can be. Rinoa's thrown and Tidus Lightning Steel would be nice. But I already have Morning Star, Fabled Harp and the shared Sanctum Bracer. So there's a lot of risk of getting a double. Depending on Christmas Gifts I might splurge on gems for a single 11x pull on this one.

A lot of people on Reddit are trying to figure the best way to min/max tonight's Orbfest in tandem with all of the other events we're getting. Personally I'm not overly worrying myself about it. I'm just going to focus on events as they pop up and spend any remaining Stamina in Orbfest. My hones are solid but could always use work but I just want to make sure I finish everything even if it's not as efficient as possible. But remember that Orbfest starts tonight so you want a full bar of stamina to spend on it.

Well some people spend mithril on them since they are so amazing. I personally don't because I feel my hones are sufficient and gear pulls are what make the game go around. What you may want to consider is which phase to finish up other events during and that answer is phase 2. The other phases contain black(priority), power(Second priority) and summoning(not offered in daily).

Edit: oh they are apparently adding a upgrade mat phase this time, that one is clearly least important. But the Reno event will be over before it starts, so it still looks like phase 2 is the time to do bonus battles.

Yeah. The banner and the choices are terrible now. We'll be flooded with Tyrfing's though. I'm between that and Valkyrie for Rinoa since she will be our only level 80 BLM for awhile. The banner will last through September though so I'm in no hurry to pull or decide right now.

Tyrfing isn't that great except as a RW. tho III synergy is rare. i'm going to go Valkyrie too, i think, because of the same reasoning. but yeah, i'm going to at least wait til after the RoR banners before i pull on it.

hrm, did my begginer's banner and got Lancet and healing grimoire.

Not sure I want tyrfang as my swords are pretty good... valk it is. Another caster weapon won't hurt. Although I didn't get MC2 for Rinoa :|

Rinoa MC2 isn't out yet. will be soon, in the Rift of Recollection. along with a bunch of blank MC1s that you can use on anyone.

Rinoa gets her MC2 soon, and she's the only black mage to get one for a pretty long time (at least she was in Japan). so, since she'll be the only level 80 black mage on our teams for quite awhile, it would be nice to have her SB weapon.

granted, i already have several good mage sticks. also, i already have lots of melee gear, and i already have a Ras Algethi. there's a strong argument to be made for getting that gun if you don't already have a gun.

gear pulls are what make the game go around.
I personally disagree on the gear vs hones. You can get by just about anything with the freebie gear from events. Better gear only makes things easier. Without proper ability honing "end game" boss rushes and EX fights can be nigh impossible. One of the best components of these festivals, especially for new players, is the huge amount of experience and gold they give. Stamina refreshing a little to max out a couple party setups of commonly used characters and stockpiling a gold stash is extremely helpful. It does seem like they nerfed the XP somewhat this time around, though. 20 stamina for 25k XP is mediocre. The gold is still fantastic and the orbs are still above average. It's up to each player to decide with where they're at. Veterans won't have a huge need for refreshes and while great for newbies, mythril is so valuable for them that it's a very tough call. The other possibility that could sway people to refresh or not is how much faith you have in the gacha system and your own luck. 50 mythril can easily be 11x junk 3* items while 50 stamina refreshes is guaranteed to net huge numbers of orbs/XP/gold. On the other hand, a lucky 11 pull could be game changing as well.

I probably won't be taking my beginner relic until all this December event craziness dies down. I can't decide between Tyrfing or Ninja's Chainmail. I'm only missing natural 5* retaliate weapons for II, III, and XIV so Tyrfing fills a nice gap there. On the other hand, Ninja's Chainmail is the second best defensive armor slot in the entire game, only beaten by that VII light armor from Zac's event. I only have 1 5* light armor and I use it in 99% of setups. I would use the Ninja's Chainmail just as much.

Took the gun, gives you 3 ranged supports (barret/irvine/sazh) and 2 ranged spellblades (balthier/lightning) who will now do decent damage. It's a rare item type that's only in 4 games so you are very unlikely to get one.

The other stuff is on every banner, I'd even put support weapons as more important than mage weapons since you don't need to run black mages and white mages work fine with bad gear. All teams need some breaks though, may as well get some dps out of your 5* full break.

Why is everyone going Valk over storm staff? Seems like a much more universal mage weapon.
I already have a Storm Staff. If I didn't than it would be my pick simply because, you are right, more mages can use it. But Rinoa cannot and she's our first level 80 BLM so Valkyrie makes a good pick for me when I get around to pulling on the banner. I'm in no hurry.

I just mean landing a character SB is more fun than landing an orb that you need 40 of to hone an important ability. My point wasn't about what's practical, but aboutfeelsmore rewarding. Paying for the privilege of grinding more doesn't pack the same punch.

Having said that I was planning on using some mithril on refreshes this time around until I noticed the new Xp rate.

Hones are smaller increases in power but more regular. It's a slow but steady power increase. However, one good 5 star relic can, literally, be game changing.

I didn't notice it myself but people are saying the Heroic version of Orbfest is actually giving more experience per stamina spent than the + version. If that's the case than its an obvious bug. Hopefully they'll fix it at the very least and I wouldn't say no to 5 free Mythril for our troubles. + still seems the way to go for Orbs though. I'm getting pretty good results. But if they don't fix the experience thing I'm just going to say screw it and power through the Sephiroth bonus battles tonight.
