Gonna try the demo out and see if it’s what I want to play right now, love the 2d-he style of the recent dq remakes and Octopath games. Love the old school gameplay mixed with modern quality of life improvements, and of course the music is almost always great.

I pre-ordered it after the demo. I think the story is probably going to be generic save the crystals slop but the gameplay seemed to have the capacity to get interesting similar in a way to FF Tactics or 5. Hoping there are additional mechanics the demo didn't touch on.

Glad to know, I never knew that. Still ordered it on the Switch 2. The demo was just too good. The main villan Umbra gave me Golbez vibes from FF4.

Kind of a mix between FF 6/9/13 systems. Story seems pretty generic so far, I'm just into Chapter 3. I did all the content in the demo, but didn't grind to have all my Visions maxed (kinda wish I did now). Vision juggling is a real thing, but can put together some cool builds if you find all the hidden stuff along the way. Definitely old school "do this area, there's some side stuff that's marked and a good bit of exploration stuff that isn't". Haven't found anything game breaking yet that you can get early, but just learning the systems and the different sustain stuff you can put together with even decent Vision abilities learned is pretty nice.

This and Castlevania have both been excellent. I hate their releases are so close together but I'll take it! Such a great time to be a console gamer. We still have OOT and GTA to release. This saved me... I've been in a MMO lull but this has been great!

I always feel the lull at the end of FF XIV expansions, so to have this coming out 3 months before expansion is really good timing. Been enjoying this playthrough, just worried it's going to go too fast.
Did find each area will have some cactuar like monsters that either give a ton of the points needed to level Visions or a ton of regular exp (normal versions v metal ones). Can definitely get ahead of the curve a bit with right skill stuff (there are certain things you can grind for that always hit, bane of cactuar mobs).

The story isn't going over the top for originality but it's serviceable and the RPG gameplay is what you are here for. When I got the 5th character and realized they had 0 visions done it was a straight GDI moment cause there is huge growth range and you are not going to be maxing in the middle of the game. All characters receive battle rewards so that helps out in that regard.
There is 26 of each magicite tier spread out through the game, but you can also rare steal them off cactuars once you get later in the game. Don't think you can "get" ahead of it though if you have be doing all sidequests.
