There's a TON of places you could go with a proper sequel.

Remember the actual timeline is that the whole story is being told 400 years later by Alazlam Durai. It would be cool to follow that story and see what happens when all that info is released.

You could do a prequel, where we see Saint Ajora's rise and fall and what really happened.

We could go back to the 50 years' war and see that whole story. (T.G. Cid as protagonist please!)

We could see the whole backside of the story from Olan Durai's point of view, crossing paths with Ramza and Delita but showing all of the other stuff he did.

Those are just off the top of my head using events already alluded to in the game, not even mentioning wholly original stories set in that universe.

It’s Final Fantasy. Just make an entirely new cast and story, keep the mechanics, chocobos and classes.

Personally I don't want another FFT from the current Square Enix, it would probably turn out even worse than the advance games did.

and since Merrith Merrith is some kind of retard I guess I'll elaborate that the Return to Ivalice raid in Stormblood was not an epilogue to FF12 and FFT any more than the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse raid was an epilogue to Nier: Automata. Last I checked Rasler and Ashe were not brother and sister, Basch and Gabranth were not father and son, and Mustadio, Agrias, and Orlandu did not have Zodiac forms.

Yoko taro said the Nier stuff was canon. For what that’s worth.

It's worth literally nothing. He would take a vaguely robot-shaped shit and say that it's canon just to fuck with people.

I agree. They would turn it into an action game with minimal equipment options.

Hopefully they tweaked the game enough to make it a little different than previous versions, similar to what was done with the recent Tactics Ogre release. If it’s of that quality, I’m down with buying this FFT for $30-40. I haven’t played it in a long time and a refreshed, better performance version would be appreciated. The only thing that sucked with Tactics Ogre remake was there were some very blatant bugs (like resists not working at all iirc) that the community pointed out to them over and over and they never addressed it.

Relax nerd, it's just meant to be an alternate version of the Ivalice world

When it's you, you never know
Yeah I remember playing through the questline in Stormblood and thinking to myself 'wait a minute, did I dig up my ps2 or am I still on my PC?' because it really was so confusing as to whether or not it was the same Ivalice. Then when I was playing through the Bozjan storyline in Shadowbringers and Gabranth showed up and I was once again utterly confused as to whether or not I was playing FF12 or FF14.

Fuck off you stupid faggot.

What sucked for me about the Tactics Ogre remake was the final boss. One of the worst final bosses I can think of in any RPG. Absurdly hard fight and it's two stages so you get to repeat the lengthy first stage every time you lose.

Maybe the original TO had a final boss that ridiculous too, don't remember.

I eventually won, but it took a while and took lots of rewinding. Heard that there are summons you can get in the endgame that crush, and make the final boss a lot easier, but yeah.

On one hand, these ports piss me off because they're usually such cash-grabs, on the other hand they give me an excuse to revisit something like TO every 12 years or whatever. FFT hasn't gotten a major port since PSP IIRC, so this is basically the Switch TO era port delayed a few years. Which makes it a little less egregious since it's been a while since the last FFT. I doubt many people have a PSP anymore either. Maybe some new folks will get exposed to FFT through this and see what us old folk are talking about.

It's honestly a combination of things.

Not really graphically being updated but charging 60? Jlaw-ok.gif

Touting the story as "important" for this day and age? No, not even close. The original story wasn't important culturally; it was just really really well told even with a questionable translation.

Those are cash grab thoughts.

On the idea of the game being moved to a different story beyond Delita/Ramza... I mean sure, you can (the advance games did... and they sucked hard storywise) but a large part of the interest in FFT was the actual story. It was very GoT before GoT hit gamers. I don't think modern writers will hit that same level because of the modern audience paradigm.

You could absolutely iterate on it, but a large part of the FFT attraction is the somewhat unique combination of story and mechanics. Losing either kind of fucks everything up.

Yes but think about the glorious arguments that were lost due to them not continuing the series.

FFT6>>>FFT>FFT4>>>FFT7>FFT2/3/5>>>>>>>>>>>FFT8.

FFT6 is the only FFT that eclipses the original in terms of characters and story. FFT4 was a great homage to the original and from there it went off the rails a bit with unnecessary mechanics and boring characters. They almost redeemed themselves with 7 and 6 was incredible but that was because they borrowed GRRM for the story since he needs to work on anything but the one series that made him a bajillionaire but then they shit the bed again once they couldn’t lean on his story telling.

Anyone who enjoyed FFT8 is a raging faggot. The story sucked, the characters sucked and the ending made no fucking sense. This series is probably trash now and Squenix should just kill the series but they won’t. They’ll keep milking FFT fanbois. Thats right Chris Chris I’m talking to you.

Oh what could have been.
