I was going to say that’s the stupid kid thing right? Played that for like 10 minutes, nope

if you look at the art for the humans in tactics, it’s very much largely the effeminate anime, which to be fair is also iconic to 7 and part of what made the franchise popular in the US (triggering anime weebo obsession), but its hard to back and look at the majority of soft looking men models, and not see that weird desire for a childlike little petite features aesthetic (no noses etc), as a opposed to something with rougher more rugged manly bravado. I’m not surprised they went in that kid direction

That's always been Amano's style, but you couldn't really see it in earlier games due to graphical limitations

Yeah and it’s on the lady boy/twink end of the “pretty boy” aesthetic, how many squared off jaws do you see in the average anime, yeah they’ll have 1 or 2 strongman types but its a sea of v chinned men. It’s like men staring into the mirror more than they should, as opposed to doing something physical and dangerous, comes with the T and the T has been on the wane, in the West and Japan, maybe it’s the soy, maybe the plastic, maybe civilization itself….anyway this is an indictment if anime itself more than just FFT, I did like the art when I was a kid

Finished Midlights Deep / Deep Dungeon for the first time. As a kid I never made it past the second level because I hated trying to find the secret staircases.

The voice actor for Elidibus is notably good even with just a few lines.

Deep Dungeon is just a tedious PITA, but I found that the exit, much like war, never changes. So have Teleport on a character and use that to see the map layout, follow some online maps of where the potential exits are, and warp to 'em. Can try warping to the exits at the start of a fight and then restarting the fight until you find the right one. Managed to get through all of DD besides the last map in about an hour. Final fight took another hour because I had to also get Zodiark (had Ramza be the summoner and wear an accessory with Auto-Shell) and the fight itself is a hard one regardless.
Why did it take an hour? Took me about 10 minutes, he casts zodiark every turn he can pretty much, and just throw on mana shield and you are good to go.

That was an exaggeration, I doubt it took me an hour to do the last fight. It just felt like an hour. I insisted on making it through the fight without losing any characters, so it took 3 tries. The minions spamming Bioga the entire way up was an issue for my party, since nobody had Auto-Potion and I'd made it that far without needing much for heals all game. I'd just murder everything before I took any losses. That last fight puts you in the position of needing magic resistance and heals more than ever. Mana Shield would have been a good idea, because the Zodiarks HURT (and would one-shot some of my characters, maybe due to Faith, not sure).

Only other fights that gave me grief were Zalera (surprisingly, don't remember that fight being an issue in the past), the Elmdor fight right before it, and (of course) Wiegraf/Velius.

Considering he's the big boss of the Lucavi, they really sold Hashmal short. Easiest Lucavi fight in the game, could have really used some minions at least. Ultima was pretty easy too, as was Adramalech (again, could have used minions). Queklain was just annoying.

Deep Dungeon is definitely my least-favorite part of the game. Finding the hidden exits is a chore. I know it has some BIS equipment but I'd rather farm BIS from enemies (like in Secret of Mana) than by rummaging around on the floor.

With Chantage and ribbon being able to be equipped by everyone, there’s not a fight other than that really even has the ability to cause problems in the later chapters except for the occasional ones where you have to protect someone. I feel they changed to friendly AI to be a bit less suicidal in this version though

Deep dungeon isn’t that bad, but not being able to see the map unless enemies crystallize is just dumb. Maybe if it was one fight like that it would be novel enough to be OK, but with every one of them like that it got old fast

doing a solo ramza playthrough, not single class like some peeps... been fun, little tedious. first fight with delita at gariland was fun lol, gotta reboot the fight until delita crits first hit

I remember a completely random encounter you could run into with like 20 monks (probably hyperbole) and if you were not ready, say skilling a random class, they could stomp you—it was pretty fun tbh

I did a solo Ramza playthrough once on the PS1. It was a lot of fun. It's surprising how easy it is to break the game and turn Ramza into an uber death machine. Had to do a lot of the grinding before Dorter Trade City though, because of the casters. By halfway through the game he was a teleporting, double-punching, nearly-indestructible maniac.

The only thing to watch out for is Finnath Creek, the mandatory fight with nothing but level-equivalent chocobos. They can pulverize a solo Ramza at a distance, and Blade Grasp/Shiradori won't save him either (Auto-Potion will offset their damage, provided he isn't higher than level 40 or so).

Also tried doing "one class only" challenges in the past. They didn't go well at all. Chapter 4 will beat your ass if you aren't using the named characters like Orlandu and Meliadoul.

I do like most of the stuff they've added to Ivalice Chronicles, especially with how the Alazam "Chronicles" section is laid out. I could however, have done without the passive aggressive social justice faggotry that was sprinkled around (additional dialogue around Agrias, Meliadoul's initial bio, ...) the women.

Got any screenshots of their bios? I long since uninstalled the game, curious what the passive aggressive stuff is.

Speaking of Agrias, is she really terrible as the game goes on or did I not give her enough of a chance? Cause I remember her being great on the PS1, but now she was so incredibly slow as the game went on that it wasn't even worth using her after early chapter 3. Same goes for Rafa and Malak. Just slow as dirt. It's bad enough that the enemies always seem to go first in every battle, which was annoying after a while.

I found Meliadoul to be much quicker, and hit harder, than Agrias. She's what Agrias should have been in the lategame. Maybe Agrias is good with an Excalibur, I don't know.

If you get in the weeds with the mechanics a bit different jobs have different stat growths.

Never fooled with that at all or worried about it. I'll say this though, if any class levels Speed in particular at a good clip, then powerleveling with that class on in particular would turn a character into a deity quick.

Guessing that the Speed deficiency with Agrias/Rafa/Malak versus Meliadoul/Beowulf/Cloud had something to do with the Speed stat growth for them. Their levels were probably lower than the late-joiners too.

The twins are garbage, Agrias was garbage too. Decent unique for the time and quickly retired like you seem to have done.

Meliadoul's first bio entry talks about misogyny as a low hanging fruit -- I can't seem to easily track down an image so I'll have to take a picture of my switch screen next time I play.
