I don't think anything remotely edgy is allowed at any kind of anime or video game conventions in 2023.
At a convention I once watched a life-sized Donald Trump cutout be torn limb from limb by a bunch of shrieking teenage girls while the black dude that brought the cutout stood there with a sad look on his face. Everyone assumed he was mocking Trump (it was 2017) but after seeing his heartbroken face I think he was actually walking around with the cutout because he liked Trump. And a bunch of people just trashed it and walked off.

Both of those were literally in the last trailer they showed. Catatonic Cloud being with Zach in Midgar meeting Marlene is a pretty big deviation (although pretty obviously from a separate Zach timeline/reality that you see mulitple times within that trailer).
Aerith stuff they're obviously teasing the fuck out of everyone that it's going to come to THAT point, but what will actually happen will be a big deal one way or the other.
