It is indeed just sad how you can destroy a game like FF7 because the insatiable need of "creatives" to make things different or unique, and generally...when dealing with remakes - that is destroying them.

I wish this had expedition 33’s combat layout with FF flare ATB flare.

I would be a fucking kid again.

I really liked FF7 Rebirth at first - it's everything I wanted Remake to be, from an actual re-creation of FF7's world perspective - and a pretty solid game on its own too. But, man, they just killed it with the whole Aerith thing at the end. It was so ungodly stupid.

Not sure why both FF7 remakes had to completely bungle the last 10% or so of the game. Like seriously, both games had their weak points but were mostly good, then they just completely went off the rails in the last 10%. First one has you fighting a bunch of fucking time gods on the Midgar Highway, second one has an absurdly long/tedious Temple of the Ancients followed by Aerith's death scene being cut away from so they can do a bunch of bullshit where they're all ambiguous about whether she lived or not, then have her spirit hovering around talking to Cloud all throughout the ending so it's like she never fucking left.

Is the third game just going to be more of that bullshit with Aerith's ghost hovering around? Talk about missing the entire point of FF7, coping with loss.

It drives me so goddamn nuts after how good the rest of the game was.

They just needed to do one of two things. Either remake Aerith's death and break our hearts all over again, stay true to the message of the original. OR have her death be prevented and have a great moment of catharsis that after all these years we'd get to see the rest of her story actually play out. Instead they went for the JJ Abrams Mystery Box bullshit. She's dead but we're gonna be all mysterious about it for 20 minutes so you're not actually sure at first, then we're gonna have her spirit pop up so much that the death means fuck-all. They somehow managed to be the worst of both worlds.

They're talking about a resurrection DLC. Doubt we'll have ghost following us around, but probs in some relevant cut scenes or some shit.

Watched Max talk about this now. Apparently the fiscal report was released which hints at it possibly not being released this year, with it being past April 1st in 2027 being more likely.

If it isn't released until April or later next year, might not even get the game announcement until the game awards show or another late year show. As he pointed out, game isn't even officially announced yet. We know it is coming, they're talking about it, but we don't even have the full name of it yet, with no teasers or trailers. Unlikely they will do the big reveal and start their marketing campaign 8+ months away from release. Far more likely then as a game awards / Tokyo game show / separate Sony showcase reveal with 3-4 months wait time.

Jun 2022 was the 25th anniversary stream which gave a 1 minute Rebirth teaser with related announcements but the release date wasn't until Feb 2024. Fall 2022 had some interviews but they waited til 2023 SGF for the open world gameplay trailer and did the marketing through the rest of 2023.

If it's mid 2027 it would be crazy to skip this year's SGF and release before next year's. Maybe they think Evercold for FFXIV will be that strong to end this FY, maybe they have some collabs that dictate timing, or maybe they are aiming for 7/7/2027. But at least one SGF in the next two years has to be part of marketing.

He talked about the 7727 too, but didn't feel it really made any sense since it's only part of the number. But if it is a mid 2027 release, a game reveal in December and 6-7 months of marketing with the last major trailer in SGF in 27 would make more sense than starting this year. Though I doubt any of this will be left to chance and they have full marketing teams designing the optimal hype so to speak. It's by far the biggest title Square Enix has in the making, hell, one of the biggest titles in gaming. Would not be surprised if this ends up getting the Skyrim treatment through time. Bundle editions, remasters for the next gen consoles with X price for upgrades if you already have it and so on. Once they start the marketing campaign, it's going to be everywhere and for a long time.

I for one am really excited, and while I am not as negative as Rajaah Rajaah , I do absolutely get where he is coming from. I just have more copium in that they (the actual OG creators) have been working on this for a long time, nothing is happenstance. They know what they are doing in every section of the game(s). So either they, as he mentioned, completely lost track of the point of the original, or they are saving up for a payoff and point in the last game. It's not like the person who designed Aerith and the concept of her loss isn't a part of the creative aspect of this game, and doubt he has forgotten losing his mom (I think it was?) and how he adapted that into the game. There is no more after this though, so... conclusion is coming and it is a day 1 buy for me.

Also really interested in seeing how they will manage the open world aspect. If the part in Rebirth where you fly the plane really is a teaser for Highwind. Or if it will be more of a FF X2? thing where if I remember correctly you had an airship but, selected and opened up POIs as you went along and landed only on specified areas. The map has a crazy amount of landmass that isn't explorable in Rebirth. But traveling around landing at random spots and suddenly "here there be dragons!" random encounters was part of the fun. Exploring and finding weapons. Not the same if you just look at a map screen and press "go here for X event". And REALLY hope they add exploration based finds of the summons and not just that cyborg kid following you around playing them in VR. Knights of the round should be behind a place you can see, but not get to unless you breed a golden chocobo and find it. Not just "hey I got a new summon you can try to fight!"

That was Hironobu Sakaguchi, I thought? And he isn't involved with this.

Well, I'm somewhat optimistic. The endings of the first two were ridiculously bad though.

If they're going to make a big thing out of reviving Aerith, then they should have made her death clearer in Part 2 instead of the JJ Abrams ambiguous weirdness. I'm still not 100% sure she even died. And during the ending I was too confused to actually feel anything, mourn her loss, or actually sustain any kind of emotional hit. We can't have that, people feeling bad about anything. At least they didn't immediately follow it with comedy like Dyne's death. Gotta lighten the mood quick before anyone has any real emotions!

7727 is a cool idea.

We need a Rocket Town DLC for Part 2, since that area was missing from the main game. They can use it to introduce playable Cid, the way they did with Yuffie in Part 1's DLC. Throw in a Dirge of Cerberus remaster and we'll have all the characters introduced. It would make total sense.

Also I'd like to see them do more with Jenova. Now that I know Jenova is basically The Thing, and only looks like a beautiful woman because she was mid-transformation into one when the Cetra managed to freeze her, trap her, or whatever they did.

A prequel movie dealing with The Thing vs The Cetra would be an amazing story. The Ancients were basically wiped out by this alien menace but eventually did manage to kill it.
