I have mixed feelings about this. I liked rebirth more than remake since it felt less like it was always on rails, but the amount of repetitive bloat in each map area was not fun. I ended up fully doing the first few areas and then felt so burned out by it I just did a speedrun of the main quest the rest of the way to see where the story would go. Part 3 looks like it will be good, but if it’s going to be an open world fatigue speedrun sort of game for me again I’m not sure I’ll be getting it. I’m also still biased because I felt the ff7 remake should have been 1 self contained, turn based game following the same storyline.

Compiled details from Hamaguchi
- Game is playable from start to finish including side content
- In the final polishing stages of development
- Considering showing it at TGS
- Switch 2 version needs an extra level of optimization that they will do after the PS5 and PC development has settled down.
- Landing the Highwind anywhere is tough to pull off so they decided on parachuting in.
- You get the Highwind quite early in the game
- You can fly around the entire world freely
- If you reach the end of the world you end up on the other side like a globe.
- All areas return from Rebirth, including Gongaga but won't be exactly the same
- You have a single Chocobo companion that levels up
- Main story is order is predetermined, but not the side content
- You can explore the entire map once you get the Highwind
- Open world scale has leveled up from Rebirth
- Vincent can switch between Beast mode and normal mode at the press of a button
- Cid specializes in aerial combat
- More combination attacks between different characters
- New "FITS" system allows characters to change jobs, such as "Black Mage", with new outfits.
- All FITS are unlocked from the start
- There are 4 FITS for each character
- FITS have a skill tree
- Key concept for the game is "Resolve"
- Cloud and co resolve the face the final battle
- The devs resolve to conclude the FF7 Remake series well
- Zack will be a more important part of the game than in Rebirth
- Wutai is fully depicted
- Rocket Town will appear towards the end
- Underwater world will appear
- Knights of the Round will appear
- Won't have the same character affection system as Rebirth due to the difference in story
- No multiple endings
- Want a single ending that can say "This is the conclusion of the FF7 Remake series"
- Side content will vary based on each player's choices
- Minigames will have easy and normal modes
- New option to skip minigames
- Scarlet slapping minigame will be included

Sounds like the game is pretty much ready and the Switch 2 version's performance issues are holding it up.

The first two were in Spring 2020 and Spring 2024, so this one being Spring 2027 puts it about a year earlier than I expected. COVID kinda added a year to all of the normal timing cycles, though. Devs that usually put out a game every two years roundly put out something on the third year instead, etc. Getting this a year early is cool, and means I'll have to move up my Rebirth replay. Only played it the one time, been wanting to go back and get the plat for a while now. Thinking maybe I'll do that in the month before this new one drops, so I can go right from one to the other, but either way I've gotta put that on my list for this year now.

I really hope they get the whole northern continent part right. While Disc 2 of OG FF7 was my least-favorite part of the game overall, I liked the first few hours of it a lot. All the snow areas, while sometimes tedious and annoying, really felt desolate and striking after the shock of losing Aerith. Wandering in a cold wasteland was like a physical manifestation of how the characters were feeling at that moment. So yeah, really looking forward to the snowy northern continent being the first few hours of this game (at least) and being fleshed out more. After that I expect the game to branch out into almost an open world mission-based game like FFX-2, where you have Highwind and an array of "hotspots" to go to and resolve various problems that are going on, like WEAPON appearances and story sections that didn't make it into Rebirth like Wutai.

Expecting Wutai to be a huge part of this game, not just the one section we got in the original. It's a kingdom powerful enough to fight off Shinra's military, and portrayed as being fairly huge in this version. There'll probably be a lot of new content added for that part in particular.

A Dirge of Cerberus Remake would have made sense for Fall '26, or Christmas, but it looks like they aren't bothering. Maybe that game just wasn't save-able, or they didn't think it would be worth doing like Crisis Core was. Also bummed that we're not getting any DLC for Rebirth. One telling the Rocket Town story with Cid's backstory would have made sense and I've seen a few people saying as much. That part of the story was just left out, and important for understanding Cid. The third one can still do that part, with Cid going into space, but it would have made more sense to do it in Part 2 as the introduction to the character. Now it'll need to be considerably different since he's already been with the team for a while. Cid got like no development in Part 2. So yeah. In my dream world they would have done an "out now" Rebirth DLC along with the Part 3 announcement and given us that Cid backstory.

I think I saw a Jade WEAPON in the trailer. Jade WEAPON was in one of the Japan-only spinoff games no one played, like Before Crisis maybe. There's room for adding that, Citrine WEAPON (a yellow counterpart to it), and Sapphire WEAPON. Really hoping we get Sapphire WEAPON because the original game had it, but it was never fightable. It's the one that gets shot by the Junon Cannon near the end of the game and presumably sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

Also the snowboarding minigame needs to be excellent. The original could have practically been its own game release. If this new one nails the snowboarding minigame, people are going to spend hours just playing that.

Btw, they confirmed Rocket Town is in the game, one of the later areas (assuming space mission part?). Can pretty much bet stuff like Rocket Town, snowboarding, undersea stuff with submarine and Emerald will be reveals in later trailers.

Rocket Town should be early (hell it should have been in Part 2). Having it "late" is kind of bizarre. That whole section was used to introduce Cid.

Well, since he's completely different now and all sanitized and nice, guessing Rocket Town will just be the later version of it from Disc 2.

They did say some sections would be visited out of order. Obviously Wutai was a likely component of that, since it was completely optional in the OG and people visited it either somewhat early or not until fairly late in the game. Changing when we go to Rocket Town could be part of that.

Curious if the whole "chase for the Huge Materia" from OG will be different now given the massive materia each Weapon seems to have in it. Maybe our fights taking them down one by one those become the new "huge" materia. Either way could lead to the space scene in Rocket Town again.
