Came back to this about a month ago. So much has changed and it's fairly easy to level now but as Flight mentioned there's sooo much content.

Game is still solid entertainment and they continue to release content, if not paid DLC.

The addons really make the game shine and there's no shortage of walkthroughs out there.

Was very bizarre to learn I hadn't played for 17 years and yet it all came back pretty fast.

I played for a bit when it first came out in the US. I got to level 30 more think and noped out because my friends outleveled me (at the time a 3 level difference basically killed xp gain) and I got sick of spending 30 minutes finding a group and 10 minutes to kill a single mob for 1/10000 of an xp bar.

I played when it launched in the US and quickly found the Japanese wouldn't group with outsiders.

That too - I think I got 1 group and they were nice, most times they wouldn't group with westerners. Part of it was probably language, but westerners were new and didn't know how to combo properly as a rule. I remember one interaction where a group was looking for a party. I asked to join and they said "sorry, dont speak english". Then I responded I spoke Japanese back in Japanese. The guy then said "group full". lol

Would easily kick my EQ addiction if Square ever decided to launch TLP/Classic servers for this game. So many great memories. Job system allowing you to mix/match job was really cool, even if it boiled down to the usual min/max cookie cutter main/sub. Allowing your one character to swap to any class in the game was really ahead of it's time.

I remember being in early WoW beta and lots of people asked Blizzard on the beta forums to add mailboxes and auction houses like FFXI. They eventually added them before launch.

They’re expected features now, but at the time it wasn’t a base feature in MMOs

Unless you played bard! My first job to 50 because it was basically a free tour of the game. Also the worst class ever designed in any MMO.

Also remember buying this game from winning a YuGiOh tournament, I was short a few bucks of store credit and a few friends pitched in some bucks, good ass times.

It is/was a TCG card game that was big around the time people were buying Pokemon cards (early 2000s). Think Magic the Gathering.

Early 2000s was a wild west of TCG card games - everyone was making them because they were hoping to cash in on the Pokemon card fad. I had a friend who collected the Star Wars and X-Files TCG back then.

Sorry, I guess I wasn't faggy enough to get into Pokemon or whatever the hell the other game is.

We played MTG back when antiquities was out, but we also played Rage, vampire the masquerade, MechWarrior, and I knew some dudes that played the Star Wars one and I tried it once or twice but no dice. I do remember seeing the goofy commercial on TV.

I also remember a kid back in high school who try to play that Wyvern tcg, but I think it was the only kid in the entire town that played it.

I missed the whole TCG train. MTG came out and I remember I bought a starter deck and some boosters...and then people stopped playing it at school completely before I even got a chance to play during lunch. That was my last attempt at trying to get into a TCG. Although I bought a bunch of boxes of Animayhem card boosters because they were marked down to a penny a pack and I liked anime at the time lol (not the DragonBall Z ones, those ones were actually popular at the time. The base sets that had stuff like old ass animes like Dominion Tank Police, Tenchi Muyo, Ramma 1/2)
