Final Fantasy XIV (Guide in first post)

There is a 14 days trial, so I started to download, every now and then it stops and tells me Download failed because of error such and such.
My google fu told me I had to run as administrator, then dsable antivirus, then a lot of other shit things, but it certainly doesn't start very well.
If it wasn't for a friend suggesting me to play it, I'd have already canned it.

Any workaround that you guys know about?

Odd that it'd require more than just running as admin, unless you have weird privileges on your rig or something. The anti-virus is like... every program in the world ever when it installs, but if yours has active scanning going it might get in the way. You should just be able to go toFINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Game Client Download (Windows)and download from there, then install, since the client should be exactly the same as the trial. If that is where you got it from, you might want to see if you are using the administrator account. Did you get the download from the main website or from another? Oh, and silly question, but it is allowed in your firewall?

Admittedly when I installed a month ago I didn't have any issues and there weren't any dialogue boxes besides "do you want to run this on your machine?" and then the usual "Windows Firewall says this is an internet thing, do you want it to do internet things?" with zero errors.

It's all properly prepared and it works, except that a couple times it doesn't.
I start the download and it goes fine for 1Gb, then I get an error. I restart it and now I have 1 less Gb to download, then after 3 or 4 more Gbs it gives an error again. This is fairly random and google told me I'm not alone.
In the end I'll likely make it till the end (haha ha), but I find this annoying, so I asked if anybody had similar issues and how they solved them.
I never had an issue installing games, except FFXI many many years ago (on a different machine). Maybe SE doesn't like me or something, I guess that's possible

Hrm, maybe not enough tentacle porn on your hard drive? I think the game checks for that. It's why I keep La Blue Girl on a USB drive so that whenever I install something from japan I don't fail the tentacle rape check. I think it's a box you have to tic in the client somewhere.

I'm pretty sure there was a live action la blue girl made. Lots of painted piping.

Is this game's web/account interface still a puzzle? Last time I resubbed it took me like an hour to navigate through the proper web pages trying to regain access to the right username/password.

I download, login, now it asks me for the cd key. I try multiple things and find I ordered it through amazon and got my key. Enter key and it says it's already registered, well no shit. Why is it asking me for the key again, this shit makes me rage.

Are you sure you didn't register the CD Key under a different user name? The reason I ask, is you mentioned that you registered on Apr. 1st which is about 4 month before the game was released, which was probably for the beta access. It would also explain why the cd key was already registered, yet not showing up under the user name you're trying to log in with.

Just a thought.

Yeah, I forgot I couldn't register the key with my current account since that account was created when I was in the UK. So I made a new account and had to use a different email, hard to remember shit like this from 2 years ago. With that being said, these account management sites still blow bleeding aids dicks.

I made it, finally.
Game is gorgeous, animations are good, I picked a Conjurer because healing is healing, so far it's been fun, despite the truckload of delivery jobs that made me feel like FedEx or something like that.
I hope to throw in a few good hours before the trial expires, maybe even try two or three different classes. I think I could have a couple months of fun in this game, now... how to convince my friends to play it as well?

What was so great about Titan? I killed him yesterday. Was just a standard boss fight for the most part. Are you saying that is the first boss fight where gameplay starts to get challenging?

No, Titan isn't difficult. But he looks cool as hell. Much more exciting than all of the pizza delivery quests you did leading up to him.

Ya I have to give it to SE, when the game first out those first primals and hard modes etc were such an awesome experience. You just got jazzed with the music and what not. Did they ever improve the accuracy of ground AE's? Was so fucking annoying when you were doing the top end content and fucking died to bullshit when you were out of something but the game still flagged you in it. ANGGGGGRY

Yep, in Patch 2.1. The server originally updated your character's position once very 0.3 seconds at release. In 2.1, the applied fix reduced it to 0.1 seconds in all high-level content, trials and PvP.

Still the old update time in the world apparently as I got nailed by rams voice when doing Go, Go, Gorgimera when leveling my monk class; even though I was well out.

Uh, pretty sure the chimera "voice" attacks don't have indicators. Either somebody silences the cast or people die.
